Its so on: Fred Heebe lawyers up with some of DC's finest criminal defense lawyers

All three new lawyers added to Team Heebe come from the Washington DC based firm of Williams and Connolly. The recently issued order admitting Tobin Romero Pro Hac Vice is identical to the ones admitting Brendan Sullivan and Robert Cary. Whadda you folks reckon the combined hourly rate of these 3 gents adds to?  I’m thinking somewhere close to $2,000/hour.

This is getting good.

  1. Nope. In the beltway as we speak. I’ll check on the going rate. Maybe they can hire Turdley too since he did such a bang up job for Porteous.

  2. One from Dartmouth and two from Georgetown.

Well, I’m sure they’ll be fine down here.

    Just fine.

  3. Well you know, the folks in DC really like to read about themselves on Slabbed even Turdley LOL.

I’m thinking this story is going national, kinda like pOrteous.

    1. Nowdy sends word that somewhere buried in the maps of River Birch’s office in the search suit it is noted that Fazzio’s office was vacant. To that extent I suspect the gang has long known Fazzio was in trouble.

I think the new lawyers signal that the wait for the indictment of Fred Heebe is about over.

  4. Heebee needs to reevaluate his priorities right now. Is it better to go down fighting and spend 20 years in prison or cop a plea and spend 5 years in prison? I’m sure he will see the light at the beginning of the tunnel when St. Pierre is sentenced to 15 years.

  5. If Letten has the final say, as opposed to the Racketeering Task Force out of DC, Heebe will be given a pass as an UNINDICTED co-conspirator…isn’t he the source who has given up Mouton…Fazzio…what? Broussard, Whitmer and Wilkinson TOO!!!

  6. Even more outrageous. Not only could Heebe remain unnamed in the Mouton suit and continue to be unindicted but Letten could suggest to the Judge that Mouton provide restitution and give the $400,000 back to Heebe TOO !!!

Heebe employs the Pastry Defense ( orders his cake with a little lobby work icing on it but then claims he was a kind man who was unfairly extorted into buy too much icing ) and gets to eat the whole mess without paying.

Seems impossible, well just wait and see.

  7. Being a person who believes mightily in KARMA i predict that the Heebes are going to reap what they sow much as many believe was the fate of the Kennedy Clan. Heebe can take his beating and maybe spare his children and grandchildren or he can continue the cycle of depraved indifference condemning them in the process. His choice.

  8. $2000 an hour for all three is actually low. Brendan Sullivan’s hourly rate alone is $1000 per hour. Tobin Romero & Robert Cary’s hourly fees are in the range of $600 to $800 an hour each. You are also discounting the number of associates and Partners who have not entered an appearance in this case. I suspect there are at least 10 to 15 attorneys working this case at Williams & Connolly and that the Hebee’s put a legal retainer down to retain their services somewhere in the range of $1.5 to 2 million dollars. I estimate the total cost of defense to the Hebee to be somewhere in the $4 to $9 million dollar range in legal fees, experts, pr companies, consultants, private detectives, etc. K Street area firms know how to do one thing–BILL and find things to spend $$$ on to win.

The Feds better send in the troops from D.C. on this one because its going to be one nasty battle ahead. If the US Attorney’s office was smart they would pinch everyone in their brother and start charging people and getting guilty pleas en masse. The more the merrier. The New Orleans US Attorney’s office is completely overmatched here IMO and they need serious manpower help in all facets of the game.

Oh if I was the US Attorney/FBI/IRS/Postal Service/etc I would be very discreet in who I met with because

  9. Sleuth: “because…” Help me connect the dots I’m not following your lead here.

I agree, if they don’t get some mass indictments, mass plea deals and many cooperative witnesses soon its going to be another repeat Casey fantasy murder case .

    1. I tell you why Locke, because Heebe and his friends own the local newspaper and they have spies everywhere. And frankly after the revelations from the Whitey Bulger saga, Heebe and pals could very well have an inside mole in either NOLA FBI, Letten’s office or both.

The shit that is coming down is comparable to the prosecution of Little Man himself and that was almost 40 years ago.

  10. The local FBI & US Attorneys office has made some mistakes in this case. The types of mistakes that get guilty clients off. The widely known man power issues at the US Attorneys office in New Orleans now give a huge advantage to the River Birch crowd. The key to the River Birch crowd now is to keep everyone in the fold and quiet. So the feds will have to bring in major horsepower to offset the screw-ups and staffing issues. Also hurts the local US Attorneys office that some of these same crooks have been operating as informants for years to knock out the competition. Washington DC has to take the reigns, increase the staffing for the New Orleans office by another 30 attorneys, increase their role in the case even more by allocating the necessary resources into cracking some of these crooks for other roles they played. Tax evasion charges are the easiest to bring against many of these people and this would be a good first step in cracking the code.

Those who are cooperating with the Feds in this case are probably compromised and widely known within the inner circle. Letten’s office should put Matt Cowan on as the lead in this case or co-lead counsel with the DC legal team. He is the only one I’ve seen who would instill confidence in me with this investigation at this point in time.

  11. SOP, not familiar with moles in prosecution of Little Man but i am aware of the FBI moles in the Garrison investigation which led to the murder of Ferrie, Mr. Bowers of the railroad yard fame, Dr. Mary Sherman ( Book: by Ed Hanslam: “Dr.Mary’s Monkeys”) and other key witnesses.

Hippo Katz is the first suspicious death . Will there be others.

  12. {Lockem, Garrison (a friend of Marcello himself, per Marcello’ own Brilab tapes, not to mention a Time (or Life) story from the time) belongs nowhere near any conversation of any serious investigation or even of any real (as opposed to imagined) crime. The only mole was in Garrison’s head eating awayat what was left of his schizo brain matter.}

Well the TP picked up on this…

    http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/07/fred_heebe_hires_high-profile.html

I wonder when someone mentions that Sullivan represented Moammar Qaddafi?

Sullivan represented Qaddafi I think with the idea that he would improve his image and relations with the USA. Something like that.

Is there a more blood-thirsty butcher in the world stage today? Oh I know there’s competition in Mugabe, Kim Jong Il, Chavez, Assad, Ahmadinejad, maybe some others….. but Qaddafi leaps to the current lead by bombing his own people. It takes a special kind of person to represent someone like that.
