Who sez all them racists are here down south? Montana Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull sends racist email.

One day (maybe) this country will have an honest discussion about racism.

No, Slabbed does not have a pay wall but that doesn’t mean producing the content is “free”

It has been a while since I promoted the Slabbed Donate Button so once again I’d like to remind everyone that reads us that it costs money to bring you Slabbed. Fighting the Goatherders isn’t free. Filing that SPEECH action to keep Slabbed online cost money folks and that does not count associated expenses. Nabbing court documents from Canada is costly as well and man o’ man have we found out some good stuff in the Fox 8 suit.

The bottom line is investigative journalism, even the community sourced variety we offer here on Slabbed isn’t cheap. And you can’t depend on the next guy to pay the freight. Such thinking is the reason so many very good blogs have gone by the wayside through time.

I mention  all this because Henry Blodget wrote a column today for the Business Insider, HOLY CRAP: Look What Just Happened To Newspapers! (H/T Scott McKay at the Hayride). Print Ad revenue is down by two-thirds from year 2000 levels yet as Blodget observes:

The good news is, contrary to the fears of some doomsayers (also generally people who worked for newspapers), the world has never been better informed. Thanks to blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Google, two billion online fact-checkers, and some amazing online news sites—including some run by newspapers—we now know more faster than at any time in history, by a mile.

Donations as low as $10, if enough people make them, can make a huge difference. Don’t depend on the next guy, click the button below and support Slabbed. ~ sop

South Coast Today Nova Scotia on the Broussard Arraignment: Trout Point figure pleads not guilty in New Orleans fraud scandal

Kempt Wilderness Lodge Services Registered Agent Martin Pink

Let’s circle the following Canadian Barrister’s name folks: Martin Pink. Southern Nova Scotia is a tiny place from a population standpoint so it in inevitable certain names from the libel tourism cesspool begin to repeat themselves. With that said Timothy Gillespie has a must read up on the South Coast Today about Aaron Broussard, the Fox 8 case and Martin Pink, for whom Justice Pierre Muise once worked and who also has represented the Goatherders in the past.

Pink is also the registered agent for Kempt Wilderness Lodge Services, one of Broussard’s Canadian companies connected to the corruption scandal in Jefferson Parish. IMHO the SCT is small town journalism at its finest, especially given the archaic system of defamation laws under which the media in Canada must navigate.

CONGRESS SHOULD CLEAN UP THE MESS IT CREATED!

Two time presidential contender Adlai Stevenson had a quote concerning two-faced public officials. “A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.” Well said, and there should be little doubt as to where the greatest concentration of hypocrites can be found in America, today. Just look toward the nation’s capitol. Prognosticating in favor of proposed legislation, then voting against it, or vice versa, has become increasingly commonplace in Washington.

No better example can be found than by observing members of congress trying to “cover their tracks” by reversing a section in the recently enacted National defense Act. The Act itself is the vehicle to allow military spending of $662 billion for 2013. The U.S., with the approval of Congress, will continue a number of “everywhere and forever” military actions in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq (we’re still in Iraq?) and possibly enter into a confrontation with Iran. Well, OK, so far, I guess. You just gotta trust our leadership — right?

But now, with the overwhelming approval of Congress, the battlefield has come back home. A legislative atrocity now gives to this president, and any future president, the power to give an order to the military to detain and arrest American citizens, and indefinitely hold them without charges. That’s right. No charges, no trial, and hold them indefinitely. What happened to the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments that were supposed serve as checks and balances, giving guaranteed protections to every American? Continue reading “Jim Brown”
