Missouri law firms but a Mississippi story – the Sun Herald tells it well

Anita Lee – as she does so often and so well – reminds us the motion for reconsideration filed by the two disqualified Missouri law firms is still a local story – one of two young women on the Coast denied their choice of counsel in a complaint they filed on behalf of all of us.

The firms represent two former insurance adjusters, Cori and Kerri Rigsby, in a whistle-blower’s lawsuit pending against State Farm. The lawsuit claims the company used expert opinions to defraud the federal flood insurance program after Katrina.

If anything, the Rigsbys’ lawyers say, State Farm should be disqualified.

Although U.S. District Judge L.T. Senter’s stated purpose has been to disqualify the law firms that joined Coast attorney Dickie Scruggs in a joint venture agreement that formed SKG, the Scruggs Katraina Group, Lee nailed the actually outcome.

U.S. District Judge L.T. Senter Jr. in April disqualified law firms that were associated with attorney Dickie Scruggs.

Sop has said tongue-in-cheek that any lawyer standing next to Scruggs in a courthouse men’s room is at risk of a DQ from Judge Senter. I doubt that but not that Senter’s gone too far – and that’s basically what the two Missouri firms said in asking him to reconsider.

Senter has so far disqualified eight firms, including the Rigsbys’ attorneys, Bartimus, Frickleton, Robertson & Gorny; and Graves, Bartle & Marcus, both of Missouri.

The law firms want the judge to reconsider and hope he will grant them a hearing.

Let’s all hope so, too. Required or not and outcome aside, it’s the right thing to do – and more than fitting for Judge Senter who opened this Pandora’s box with that same intent.

  1. That was one good article, IMO. It was very concise and I loved the picture of the sisters — it shows us that these girls are real people who have endured a lot in this situation.

I like the part that says, “If anything, the Rigsbys

  2. Belle if you have proof they were bellied up to the court house urinal with Scruggs I’m fairly certain Judge Senter would love to see it.
