Gustav Update: Mississippi and Louisiana Make Preparations

Gustav

For a while I was feeling a bit more confident on the path of Gustav but the 4:00PM advisory shifted the track back to the east.

Since I have linked the 5 day forecast track to it’s source check back to this post as the track automatically updates when Weather Underground posts the new track every three hours.

Also I’m linking the models from Mike’s Weather Page further down this post.

Going from east to west the Sun Herald is reporting the City of Pascagoula has declared a state of emergency. Some event cancellations have also been announced. City leaders in Gulfport met early this afternoon. The Sun Herald has also put up a Hurricane info page which contains some very useful information.

Over to the West preparations are kicking into overdrive with our friends in Louisiana. The Times Picayune reported late this morning Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is coming to meet with Governor Jindal in Baton Rouge who earlier today declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana. Officials in Jefferson Parish are making preparations as is our good friend Kevin Davis in St Tammany.

An email blast I just received from WWL radio is also reporting, “Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has called a news conference with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and FEMA Administrator David Paulison on Hurricane Gustav….from the Joint Field Office in Baton Rouge at 4:45pm”.

Gustav Track

On a lighter note Nowdy just emailed me an alternative verison of the latest track. I think the artist is taking Gustav a tad personally LOL.

I’m not in a flood zone and am not leaving so stick with us here at slabbed for the latest. Given my experiences with Camille and Katrina I’m treasure trove of dos and don’ts such as do make preparations and don’t stick around if you’re in a flood zone. Also if you’re like me and have two cases of MREs left over from aftermath 2005 now is the time to remember the dessert with the veggie burger meal is M&M’s.

Also Hurricane aftermath is prime drinking time especially if you have no damage so remember to stock up the bar (provided it is out of the flood zone). And if you have damage nothing tops off a hard days work quite like a nice toddy or cold brew.
