You know the ol’ family tree has to be too straight…

As a point of disclosure my ancestors fought on both sides and none owned slaves. I’m glad to not be saddled with that burden:

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union

In the momentous step, which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery – the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product, which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.

A state and society predicted on the enslavement of our fellow man sounds pretty barbaric to me. Worse are those that actually still celebrate it:

Karl Oliver Lynching

Rep. Karl Oliver: Those removing Confederate monuments ‘should be lynched’ ~ Kate Royals

After advocating for Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s murder watch Oliver start crying about the negative attention his intolerant missive has drawn. This much is clear, Christians do not advocate murder thus for Oliver and his band of like minded bible thumping ilk Matthew 7:15 certainly applies.

File this one under another self inflicted black eye.

  1. I admired Landrieu for cojones and a fair and honest discussion on why they need to go.
My forefathers were Puritanical Calvinists….and never ventured past Baltimore. Too many died, and as usual, both sides were young men w/ heads of propaganda, doing the bidding of our Masters, just as it carries to this day

    1. The worst part for me Maggie is these wingnuts are actually making Mitch look good. Vexing indeed.

  2. I see Confederate monuments and flags differently than some people. I get it. But there are also other symbols that I feel are offensive to me. I wont name them because someone may get offended. I get that to. But, why cant we NOT enjoy each others ideals and symbols together.

Will crime go down and unemployment go up if we rid world of all things that may offend someone?

Very doubtful that will happen. It is just redirecting blame and criticism to something other than themselves. Much like children do.

One mans junk is another man’s treasure to put it simply.

  3. All the people who say accepting and tolerance are mandatory or the most unaccepting and in tolerate people I know.

  4. You know what’s coming next. All of those offensive books in public libraries will have to go, too. At least it will make a nice bonfire.
