Senate passes Resolution supporting HR3121

More insurance news, Sop – Senator Gollott had 21 co-sponsors for his Resolution.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 527, authored by Sen. Tommy Gollott, R-Biloxi, urges Congress to adopt the bill that is pending before the Senate, which would extend the National Flood Insurance Program to include wind damage and other coverage. Taylor has been pushing the plan hard.

Gollott pointed to the slow recovery in the hard hit areas of South Mississippi where private sector insurance troubles have slowed rebuilding as proof government issued multi-perils coverage is needed.

“I’m really going to push this because we direly need it on the Coast,” Gollott said.

Gollott said he plans to send the resolution to officials in every state, as well as every member of the U.S. Senate.

  1. Nowdy we appreciate Senator Gollott and the coast legislative delegation but the Senate resolution is words not action. Republican Lt Gov Phil Bryant and his Republican Insurance Committee Chair Eugene Clarke killed every piece of insurance legislation as they are more worried about insurance industry profits than the people of the Gulf Coast. This is nothing but window dressing and a bone thrown out to GOP Senators from down here whose constituents have been betrayed by their Republican Lt Governor.

  2. Sop, I think you’re selling the Lt. Gov short – I know you want change now; but meaningful change is seldom a one year process.

  3. I don’t think so Nowdy. Bryant and Clarke first said they needed more time to study insurance issues but no study group has ever been formed. Then Bryant and Clarke killed HH 498 stating they worried about it’s impact on insurance companies. It’d be nice if they worried about the impact of not having good insurance laws on the books on ordinary Mississippians but it’s pretty clear that is not who they are serving up in Jackson.

The Senate resolution is a bone toss and rings mighty hollow against what they could have done for us. Just calling this like I see it.
