For those that didn’t know: We’ve got us a Mayor’s race in Kenna! (Brah)

In one corner is incumbent Mayor Mike Yenni. Having the occasion to speak with Mayor Mike on a couple of different occasions he is definitely Type A.

In the other corner is blogger Walt Bennetti.  This is Walt’s second try at public office in Kenner if memory serves.

Kenner mayor candidates talk trash in | The Times-Picayune debate ~ Ben Myers

Kenner political forum set for candidates for mayor, two City Council seats ~  Drew Broach

The Mayor’s race has all the makings of a classic Louisiana style bare knuckle brawl and I’ve got a ringside seat.  Fresh off a run for juvenile court judge Connie Montgomery is speaking out on the Mayor’s race and she is not mincing words:*

My name is Connie Montgomery, I am a general practice and family law attorney in Kenner, LA.

First of all I want to be clear that this is not really about me, or lifting up any of the other candidates who are running for Mayor, but I am sure that Mr. Walt Bennetti will not be the answer. As a former judicial candidate, I have learned a lot about the election process and what I’ve learned is alarming. Based on my legal practice, I feel as though I can spot a person who is not dealing with the public in an honest and direct manner. I’ve reviewed much of Mr. Bennetti’s history and have become more and more concerned with what I’ve found through this process. Through the course of the posts that follow, I’ll detail the information I’ve discovered.

Point of disclosure: Slabbed has offered both Mayoral candidates right sidebar advertising space.

Those wanting additional background on Joe Stagni and the “local wiener” series should click here and here.

* Ms. Montgomery is currently providing legal services to myself and Slabbed New Media.

“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone…….”

But there more because I hear Travers Mackel has been poking around Kenner City Hall looking at what sources describe to Slabbed as City Council impropriety. I’m not gonna steal Mackel’s thunder because it’s TeeVee News after all but we should all keep an eye peeled on WDSU next week.

As with most tips I get the the above was partially true and partially false but from a subject matter standpoint it was spot on albeit with the wrong TeeVee station.

Kenner Councilman under question about his take home car ~ Natasha Robin

Nothing like a taxpayer funded ride to the day job huh? Walt Bennetti has a different take over at Click Jefferson.

Mayor Yenni Now Targetting Kenner Councilman Carroll

This is getting good folks.

Not to be outdone by the new royal baby, the royal babies……..

On the Jefferson Parish Council arrived by helicopter for a weekend of debauchery in Grand Isle before shamelessly using the tragic murder of Ahlitta North to bash Parish Prez John Young and the code enforcement department.  I guess Chris Roberts and company liked it better back in the olden days when the person in charge of code was carrying on a torrid extramarital affair with a certain Parish Attorney.

Newbie Adriane Quinlan has all the jackassery and more for NOLA Media Group.

Next up is the brawl in Kenna as Walt Bennetti has throw down the gauntlet and challenged Greg Buisson to a cyber fight.  I have Walt on speed dial and I have Greg on speed dial but mainly I’m gonna enjoy watching the donnybrook because after all, its Kenna Bra.  😉

In other news, yes I have been keeping up with the latest wetlands lawsuit filed by the East Bank Levee Board. Bobby Jindal remains a self serving narcissist and shoeshine boy to the oil industry.

Finally I’d like to say it is pretty much an open secret that the FBI has resumed poking around the Yenni Building and the betting money is on JPAC.

BREAKING: Citizens for a Better Kenner announces Judge Kovach tells Ben Zahn and his lawsuit to take a hike.

Hot off the press folks:

Ed Lancaster, vice president for Citizens for a Better Kenner, (CFABK)

Citizens For A Better Kenner, (CFABK) is pleased that Judge Kovach, after
hours of testimony denied the request for preliminary injunction filed by
Kenner City Councilman Ben Zahn. When it was filed, CFABK thought this
lawsuit was without merit and was political in nature and designed to stop
CFABK from continuing to question the role of the City of Kenner and the
Kenner Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (KCVB), as well as Councilman Zahn’s
role, as the City of Kenner’s representative on the Board of KCVB.

We consider this a victory for the 1st amendment, said attorneys Arita
Bohannan and Ron Wilson. Continue reading “BREAKING: Citizens for a Better Kenner announces Judge Kovach tells Ben Zahn and his lawsuit to take a hike.”

File this one under, Thank’s Ben!

Jefferson Parish Council candidate Ben Zahn has sued Walt Bennetti for exposing the fact that Zahn was asleep at the wheel over at the Kenner Convention and Visitors Bureau while some very unsavory financial transactions benefitting insiders were going down.  Walt runs ClickJefferson, is affiliated with the Good Government groups in Jefferson Parish and recently announced his candidacy for the Jefferson Parish Council via New Media/Social Media.  This whole lawsuit reminds me of Chris Robert’s preemptive strike against Tim Baudier just a few months ago in Judge McCabe’s courtroom.

Since we’re free speech alley over here at Slabbed I see this latest development as a traffic generator here and since I don’t make a dime doing this, a guy has got to get his jollies some sort of way and site traffic is it for me.  :-)

Give ’em hell Walt!

Citizens for a Better Kenner calls bullshit on the shithouse dealings with the Kenner Convention and Visitors Bureau

Kenner politics is a whole other Jefferson Parish political snakepit folks, one I have mostly resisted visiting in the interest of time management but luckily for us Walt Bennetti over at ClickJefferson is smack dab in the middle of the shit storm and he, along with the Citizens for a Better Kenner have been holding certain political feet to the fire and the effectiveness of Walt and his group is best measured by the blowback from the Yenni Administration against both Walt personally and along with his fledgling political campaign for Jefferson Parish Council.

While I found the Times Picayune beat reporting to be decent on the scandal at the KCVB but last week Walt distilled the real issues in play with the scandal and subsequent announcement by Team Yenni the City was pulling out support for the KCVB. It is simply a must read because Mayor Yenni certainly knew of the hijinks over at KCVB well before it became public knowledge as he has held a high-ranking position in City government well before he became mayor of the place. The bottom line is the new guard led by Mayor Yenni is pushing out older entrenched political interests from the taxpayer trough.  That would be a good thing if the taxpayers were to realize the savings but that is not what is motivating Mayor Yenni IMHO as he no doubt is looking for sources of political patronage to start the pay to play game so favored by the Jefferson Parish political classes to his self benefit.

Against that backdrop Walt and the Citizens for a Better Kenner is calling for an investigation into the whole KCVB mess by the Louisiana legislative auditor and this is a smart move considering there exists a possible audit failure as evidenced by the shithouse financial doings at KCVB and certain of their projects. The scam has been around since before ENRON but ENRON became the poster child for creating separate entities to house the shady transactions away from the public eye.  As a CPA with more years of experience doing single audits than I care to admit to anymore I’ll add it is clear the KCVB is a component unit of the City and as such should have been subject to the same statutory audit as the city itself.  And while I do not profess to know Louisiana Home Rule statutes I’ll add IMHO sight unseen public records requirements likely should also apply here. BREAKING: Walt Bennetti announces for Jefferson Parish Council District 4

Team Bennetti just contacted me with news that Walt is throwing his hat into the ring for Jefferson Parish Council District 4. This is actually topical here at Slabbed behind the scenes as I informed last night that the current term limited incumbant, Louis Congemi, is planning on running his wife Mildred for the seat and there are also ruminations that current Kenner City Council people Michele Branigan and Ben Zahn are also considering throwing their hats into the district 4 ring as well.  Walt has a Facebook page up now and promises a website soon.
