My folks how one simple disclosure changes the context. In today’s 24×7 365 news cycle the beast must constantly be fed and sometimes junk food is served. To me the question wasn’t that the content was junk no sir. The question is who is being paid to distribute it? Jackson Jambalaya was and I am fine with that because of one reason:

The disclosure means we know that Pickering’s press release is glorified advertising. And when press releases get passed off as news uncritically what I wonder is if the messenger is being paid and that fact is not disclosed?
Pickering honored for performance and accountability ~ Paul Hampton Crawdaddy Blog
Here at Slabbed New Media we’re hip to the concept of payola thus the reason I wonder about undisclosed monetary consideration in exchange for the promotion. To be clear I am not accusing the Sun Herald or Paul Hampton of anything improper because this may simply be a case of getting some cheap content on the run. That said and given what happened in Judge Jennifer Schloegel’s courtroom, for the Crawdaddy Blog to present such tripe in an uncritical manner represents a missed opportunity. Then again that is what places like Slabbed are for as people yearn for analysis. Continue reading “State Auditor Stacey Pickering Wins Beauty Contest!!! A Mississippi (Non) Audit Department Update”
The public isn’t buying in folks and frankly neither am I since former Mandeville Mayor did the pay to play thing with city venders to the tune of $165,000 plus. Jeff Adelson has the skinny for the Times Picayune:
Former Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price’s sentence on corruption and tax evasion charges would be reduced by two years under an agreement reached by Price’s attorney and federal prosecutors, according to court documents filed Wednesday.
Given the recent sentences that have been handed down in NOLA area public corruption cases such as those involving Bolar and Dollar Bill Jefferson I now openly wonder if NOLA area perpetrators get style points for being both white and smooth in the commision of their crimes. Continue reading “From laying down the law to giving the politicians another chance. Eddie Price’s sentence to be reduced.”
The power of the new media on display folks. We exposed Price Aid, a party scheduled for the benefit of disgraced former Mandeville Mayor turned convicted felon Eddie Price one week ago. It has been cancelled. Oh yeah, Eddie also wants to stay out of the pen until September. Anyone reckon Feldman will change his mind?
I’ve embedded the related Channel 4 story on this topic below the fold. Continue reading “The end of the mystery. Price aid is cancelled. Eddie Price instead wants to remain free on bond.”
Folks in Louisiana it just doesn’t get much zanier.
With all the active federal investigations in New Orleans we never got around to covering the conviction and sentencing of former Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price. I thought this quote from Price’s sentencing was spot on:
“Don’t you think people have gotten weary of public officials who don’t live and act the way citizens expect them to act? Don’t you think this kind of conduct stains all public officials?” Continue reading “Everyone has a Price so get your tickets to Price Aid now. Proceeds benefit convicted felon/former Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price.”
I heard it first via the Beauty Shop Network and have confirmed the rumor with another well placed source. There is nothing on this as of yet in the press though I’m certain it is being looked into by the pros in the media. If true, this turn of events is most lamentable.
I’ve confirmed this with two different sources. There are 13 total indictments.
