Team Waste Management has been very busy of late taking depositions etc in the Parish’s suit against them and man o’ man is there a treasure trove of information coming out, hopefully all of which will be discussed in the upcoming public meeting.
For one, I’m not sure why anyone is wasting time on these after the fact costs analysis because it is clear Broussard, Wilkinson and Whitmer were lying through their teeth about the “savings” when this contract was bum rushed through as it is clear no cost projections or other financial analysis was ever performed.
Document 104 has some good stuff, including Team Waste Management wanting to amend their counter-claim to include new allegations that have come to light after certain depositions were taken. Team Waste Management explains:
The initial discovery and depositions in this case took place only months ago, in November and December, 2010, when Waste Management took the depositions of three high ranking officials employed by Plaintiffs, namely, Margaret Winter, Director of the Continue reading “Waste Management drops another Nuke, exposes more information on the shithouse way the River Birch contract was let.”
There are no simple answers when it comes to River Birch but I’ll lend some insight as it pertains to Waste Management’s contract, in a humble attempt to give the Slabb Nation’s musings on matters of Jefferson Parish garbage some illumination as I take a stab at answering FifthCircuitJoke’s question:
“I’m still trying to figure out why the biggest Waste Haulers in the Country have all left the New Orleans Metro Area…”
I am going to tell you a story….my honest opinion that I think answers the most simple and obvious question: Why is Waste Management abandoning contractual territory it previously coveted and fought political battles over? Your query is in fact a clue to the volatile origins of ‘River Birch II’; a criminal conspiracy originated by Heebe/Ward to establish a landfill monopoly with the compliance of corrupt Elected and Appointed Jefferson Parish Officials. And gave Bobby Bourgeois fourty whacks.
When he saw what he had done he gave Deano Bonano fourty-one.
Keith Gee also has left the employment of the Parish of Jefferson. Hat tip: You guys know who you are. 😉
I’m rolling out the long talked about post on Byron Lee later this afternoon, specifically examining his connections to Debris Management LLC and an area businessman who is purportedly an in-law to Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson. I think this may be salient to the lawsuit involving Waste Management and the Parish.
Additionally we are at T-1 for the world debut of Slabb-a-leaks which I’m hoping will rock the local media scene.
Slabbaleaks is preparing to release proof Jefferson Parish Councilman Byron Lee has more than a passing interest in the financial success of the River Birch landfill. I’ll add we’ve consistently been told several elected parish officials feed from the River Birch trough which would explain the Parish government’s fondness for the landfill, which was recently subjected to an old-fashioned FBI raid. To further whet our readers appetites I’ll add the info I have on Lee is not “shit storm” I promised to roll out.
Meantime today our readers can watch John Young try to spin “the fix” via this story from the T-P’s Paul Rioux, whereby paying a dollar more per ton for trash disposal somehow results in savings, at least according to River Birch spokesman Glenn Smith, who must be subbing for the DA’s brother, Dutchie Connick in that role. Smith and the River Birch people have evidently seen the report, despite the fact the Parish Attorney’s office initially said no to the T-P’s request for same citing pending litigation against Waste Management.
And the beat goes on…..
Over the past couple of days I’ve saved links to several stories pieces from the Times Picayune, two from the opinion page and one from the news department. Our readers will recall last week we had a bit of fun with T-P columnist Stephanie Grace, who evidently has never met a politician, crooked or otherwise she failed to like so I guess it was natural I was tickled when T-P columnist/editor Drew Broach entered the fray from the perspective of the school board races in a column that is well worth featuring here on Slabbed. Here is a snippet:
Don’t tell me that Jefferson Parish is fed up with its School Board. Not when four of every five voters skipped the election. If anything, turnout would suggest that Jefferson Parish doesn’t much care about the governance of public education.
But, yes, the few who did vote Oct. 2 demonstrated they are indeed fed up and aren’t going to take it anymore. “That” being a school system ranked one of the worst in Louisiana.
Yep, and I bet just like the schools in Orleans Parish back in the day, the system in Jefferson Parish is being systematically looted by the folks charged with running it. Once back in the day when I audited public school systems, I compared the per pupil expenditures of a district I was auditing in Mississippi to the one in Cleveland Ohio. There were no similarities as the racially mixed district I was auditing scored around the national average in standardized test scores while the Cleveland Ohio system was in the bottom quartile despite spending over $12,000 more per pupil. Like Orleans Parish, meaningful change will not come to the Jefferson system IMHO until someone from the outside such as the state takes it over and cleans house. Hat tip to Jr in comments and I echo his sentiments about IESI having this pic on their front page carousel being beyond dumb. Regarding this Barry Bordelon guy that works for Elton Lagasse, don’t the taxpayers pay him enough so that he can serve only one master? I don’t know his exact salary but from what I’ve seen the Parish isn’t shy about paying market price for the hired help.
Time is short for me this morning but on the general topic of the Parish v Waste Management, we previously chronicled certain events here with a couple of background posts here and here. Yesterday, Paul Rioux at the Times Picayune broke a story on a recent legal pleading filed in the NOLA federal courts on the suit which IMHO also represents the latest bit of blowback from the very recent FBI raid of the offices of the River Birch landfill and reportedly River Birch President Fred Heebe’s home on St Charles Avenue. Here is an excerpt of Paul’s story:
Unidentified Jefferson Parish officials allegedly had secret deals in recent years to divert trash bound for the parish dump in Waggaman to the private River Birch landfill next door, according to the firm that operates the parish dump.
Waste Management made the explosive accusation in its response to a parish lawsuit seeking to sever the company’s contract so the parish can close its dump and enact a 25-year, $160 million contract to send garbage to River Birch, a deal being investigated by federal authorities who recently raided River Birch’s headquarters.
Secret deals? You betcha there are. The question is which deals do Waste Management know about and how does that relate to the ones the Feds are digging into? This is where it gets good as I can now properly introduce the Slabbed Nation to Deano Bonano, a young man who shaves every morning with Hanlon’s Razor and whose professional existence inside Jefferson Parish Government personifies the Peter Principle.
