Methinks TheRiot v the Blogsphere is also included in the $145,394 taxpayer funded bill for legal services. A truly sad state of affairs folks. (H/T Citizens for Good Government and the divine M&M sisters)
You should click here because the harassment first became manifest when former NOLA City Attorney Bob Ellis threatened Jason Berry at American Zombie with a SLAPP suit.
Less than one year later Interim parish Prez Steve TheRiot sued the blogosphere conducting a witch hunt for certain online critics. Slabbed was mentioned in TheRiot’s suit in a clear shot across our bow.
And then there are the SLAPP suits from Canada, well covered here on Slabbed.
The dots are all out there folks, they just need connecting.
I’m getting word the gang spent 90 minutes or so behind closed-doors discussing the Vandenweghe v Parish of Jefferson. For those of you catching up Anne Marie Vandenweghe was harassed and ultimately fired from her job in the Parish Attorney’s office because she was seen as cooperating too vigorously with federal prosecutors investigating Broussard era corruption.
To the extent Parish Prez John Young is due before the cameras next week for his video deposition I am seeing hints on the PACER docket that, just like the post Katrina insurance litigation, Phelps Dunbar is incapable of trying a case without resorting to cheating and trickery as they have evidently been sandbagging emails in discovery. Thank goodness I posted a few specimen emails discussing AMV in late July as it is my understanding Phelps Dunbar initially said none existed.
Worth noting is that one of Mary Landrieu favorites for US Attorney, Kim Boyles, was an early participant in both TheRiot’s ill-advised lawsuit against the blogosphere and in the continued retaliation against Vandenweghe. Can you imagine what a disaster this cesspool lovin’ miscreant would make as Jim Letten’s replacement! Speaking of that I wonder if Mike Magner will be testifying in the upcoming trial? 😉
They did folks. In fact Concrete Busters amended complaint filed Wednesday against The River Birch Landfill et al unifies several themes we’ve covered here on Slabbed through time. But alas those nasty Goatherders and I have an outstanding matter in United States Federal District Court in Gulfport before Judge Louis Guirola that my lawyer, Bobby Truitt has me barred from commenting upon. But that does not mean that we can’t let Concrete Busters tell part of that story as I invite everyone to consider the implications for quarter 4 sales for the good folks over at Carmex. Let’s start with this snippet from the beginning of the suit:
Of course the good folks at Concrete Busters listed a few more too: Continue reading “Civil District Court lawsuit filed by Concrete Busters against River Birch terms Trout Point Lodge Ltd. of Nova Scotia a “shell company””
First the disclaimer. Attorney Bobby Truitt represents Slabbed in its free speech fight against Aaron Broussard’s former business associates at Trout Point Lodge. Second I contacted Mr. Truitt for comment on the following documents, which my Gabby cousin Slabb O’Leak laid on me yesterday and he declined.
So folks to understand the significance of these documents and my post title above you have to understand Slabbed’s coverage of the political corruption scandal in Jefferson Parish, which began with this post back on January 12, 2010. By then Aaron Broussard had resigned in disgrace and Steve Theriot was installed via the bums rush by the Parish Council as Broussard’s interim replacement. I contended then and still contend Theriot was put in office to salvage the River Birch deal due to the fact he is John Alario’s protegé and Alario likely still has a financial interest in seeing River Birch end up with the monopoly on the region’s garbage. Theriot was also installed to prevent the corruption scandal from widening thus Tom Wilkinson was still on the payroll until March 4th, 2010.
The way Theriot went about containing the scandal was to attempt to silence those that were blowing the whistle on the systemic corruption and his battle trying to fire Anne Marie Vandenweghe played out on these pages. For a blogger like me the material was pure ratings gold and that is where the ignorant came in because the popular meme in certain less informed Jefferson Parish corruption circles is that I was “Anne Marie’s brother”. Sal Perricone parroted this remark on NOLA.com some time later and Slabbed will be revisiting Perricone, who
was fired from his job hastily retired from his job at the US Attorney’s office after strong evidence of unethical conduct as it related to another target of the sprawling federal corruption probe surfaced. When I say this is a cesspool in Jefferson Parish I’m not joking folks.
So what happened after Tom Wilkinson bit the dust at the upper levels of Parish Government? By that time Theriot had sent Anne Marie home claiming she was blogging while she was supposed to be working, a public allegation Theriot never sustained as it was pure fantasy. He was workin’ it though: Continue reading “File this one under they were ignorant until the very end…. (revised)”
Remember back to May 2010?
And of course here on Slabbed….
The 4th quarter is here folks. Let’s have some fun while we drain the cesspool.
And I verily bet poor ol’ Roy crapped his pants when he saw the other media reports on the Broussard curatorships considering he was telling Charlie and Vaughn, on Broussard’s behalf, to put Riverbend on the Lodge’s main insurance policy. Of course you say that and they will sue.
And this fixation they have with Anne Marie Vandenweghe is unhealthy IMHO. In fact it appears to be the same fixation TheRiot had for AMV considering the Fox 8 case has really been all about trying to get information on blog commenters, whether with the T-P or Slabbed. In the case of Fox 8 the
girls goatherders wanted a log of every IP address that visited the story and video on Broussard. I’ll be rolling that out in due course. Click the pic to get the 4 page pdf of Charles Leary being Charles Leary. If you want to see the exhibits, where the best dirt is I need your help.~ sop
Update: In light of the newest revelations about Nova Scotia Enterprises being a conduit to pay bribes to Aaron Broussard, the affidavit posted late last January is well worth the read. ~ sop 9/13/12
As Lawyer X can well explain, corporate and insurance clients routinely pick apart billing statements and do not pay what is billed. It’s even more deplorable if the Parish does not have someone audit these bills and seek reduction.
So wrote a menber of the Slabbed legal team that saw the vender detail report detailing how much money the Parish has spent with the firm of Phelps Dunbar for handling 2 matters in suing the blogosphere for TheRiot and preventing access to public records. Our readers may recall things aren’t working out so well on the public records front as Phelps Dumbar got their asses kicked on appeal along with the taxpayer funded, Sandestin vacationing Judge Ross LaDart, who homecooked the case for the Team Young/Theriot. I believe the Parish will end up paying for both sides of the legal bill on this case before this is done.
So what did Lawyer X have to say? For context purposes Lawyer X is a noted civil defense lawyer that has done lots of works for insurers and other corporate clients:
Why did they not produce the actual bill and only produced the payment ledger?
Frankly the payment ledger is bad enough. So how much taxpayer money has Teams TheRiot/Young squandered fighting the now fired whistleblower Anne Marie Vandenweghe? Short and sweet folks: Three cases and we’ve covered them all.
The suit the Parish filed against certain media outlets to clarify which grand jury documents the media would receive pursuant to media public records requests. The decisions made with respect to the outcome of this litigation is a key precursor to Slabb O’Leaks where we periodically publish the emails of certain parish council members from around the general time frame when the insurance portion of the Jefferson Parish political corruption scandal broke. This suit deals with the public records law and the media outlets were defended by Phelps Dunbar.
The suit Anne Marie Vandenweghe filed against The Parish after the Parish denied her public records request for her email file folders. This suit is currently at the Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeals after Judge Ross LaDart dispensed a bit of Gretna style justice in favor of TheRiot and company. This suit deals with the public records law and the Parish is being defended by Phelps Dunbar.
Last but not least is TheRiot and the Parish suing the blogosphere last year, specifically mentioning yours truly in the suit. Leaving aside for the fact it is practically impossible to defame or liable a government under our system of law, the Parish was represented in this suit by Phelps Dunbar. I recently had one of those famous Slabbed Ah-Ha moments where what seemed to be unrelated events clicked. The result is this post as we can examine the recent events that ended with Mr Theriot withdrawing his very ill advised lawsuit against the blogosphere in context. Unfortunately I’ll also explain why the Slabbed Nation should remained armed and vigilant as the thugs on the Parish Council and their waterboy Steve Theriot are busy hatching the next scheme to eliminate dissent inside Parish Government and trample the free speech rights of those who comment on Parish Government from the outside. Let’s begin with the Ah-Ha moment which came courtesy of a recent article by Rich Rainey at the Times Picayune:
The Internet has become an electrified third rail in Jefferson Parish government.
Most recently, interim Parish President Steve Theriot sued to uncover the identities behind anonymous user names on the website www.NOLA.com. After enduring days of public scoffing, he dropped the lawsuit this week.
But his administration’s wrestling with the online world goes back further.
In January, when Theriot took office in the dust storm of Aaron Broussard’s resignation, chief administrative officer Jose Gonzalez — himself newly appointed after Broussard’s top executive, Tim Whitmer, resigned — said he discovered a wide swath of parish employees with Internet access were abusing it. Continue reading “Slabbed takes a look back at Theriot v Cyberspace and ties a few things together as we again call for his resignation.”
