“I don’t think you can listen to that account without being sickened by the raw brutality of the shooting and the craven lawlessness of the cover-up”: US District Court Judge Sarah Vance

As the core subject topic of this blog involves financial issues and the related legalities our audience here on Slabbed tends to be very well heeled and geographically diverse. I am gratified a fair number of you guys are reading the posts we’re doing on local issues such as the sack of sh!t politicians that run Jefferson Parish among others. One subject that we have not blogged much on but that we are following is the Danziger Bridge Shootings of unarmed Hurricane victims by NOPD in the early days after Katrina. Those interested in learning a bit more can click here for a great account of the events to this point as Judge Sarah Vance accepted the guilty plea of a 3rd officer involved in the cover-up to the crime. Here is a snippet:

Hunter, 33, said a New Orleans police sergeant fired an assault rifle at wounded civilians at close range after other officers stopped shooting and after it was clear that the police were not taking fire. He also says he saw another officer in a car fire a shotgun at a fleeing man’s back, although the man did nothing suggesting he was a threat to police. Here is another Easter Egg for you Dane Ciolino fans

It could be curtains but them NOPD guys that capped those innocent poeple on Danziger Bridge after Katrina.

“The government is clearly laying the groundwork through this guilty plea and no doubt through other debriefings for a federal civil rights lawsuit that could result in perhaps even a death penalty case being brought against one or more of these officers,” said Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino.

Now y’all be sweet in the commentshear.

Here is an easter egg for you Dane Ciolino fans

Dane Ciolino, an unabashed Slabbed fan was on the radio today stating the obvious:

Loyola Law professor Dane Ciolino says it appears that U.S. Attorney Jim (Letten) is intent on targeting the remaining members of the Danziger 7 on federal homicide charges, and not just covering up the shootings.

“I think that’s almost an absolute certainty,” Ciolino said. “The evidence disclosed today reflects a very different picture of what happened on the Danziger that we’ve all heard the last couple of years.”

4 NOPD up on big time fed homicide charges. Meantime those that only had the living snot knocked out of them still await justice.

We’re certainly following Jim Letten’s progress on the Danziger incident even if our blogging on the topic is sparce.

Happy Easter Dane. 😉
