All hail Chris Roberts the Royal Monarch de la toilette!

What can you say folks except that Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts loves a parade!

Meantime Roberts exhibits his true talent for squandering money, especially other people’s money such as scare tax dollars:

Jefferson Parish Council Chairman Chris Roberts, HCA executive trade heated words ~ Ben Myers

What is interesting to me given the spectacle Roberts has made of the process is whether the 7 area legislators that co-sponsored the legislation stripping the voters of any say in this matter would do the same thing again knowing what they know now, especially since Roberts and company appear ready to cram Children’s Hospital down the throats of the taxpayers in a deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars less than what HCA has offered. Coming soon from the gang that caused the Performing Arts Center and River Birch debacles. Let’s make a new deal!

For themselves of course.

It is at this point that I feel compelled to take the Jefferson Parish legislative delegation for a trip down memory lane to the last time the Parish council wanted a law changed that attracted the attention of good government activists across the parish.  What makes the similarity in my mind between the stripping of a civil right from the populace in removing the provision for a public vote on the sale/lease/management of the two public hospitals and the “tweaking” of the public records statute on the behalf of TheRiot is both involved major losses of public transparency.  Of course it was the behind the scenes deal making that brought the taxpayers both the Performing Arts Center and River Birch Landfill debacles so you’d think the gang on the 10th floor of Yenni along with the Parish Council would have at least had the sense to consider all the ramifications here. Instead I sense the politics of self enrichment are at play, likely with a heavy dose of crony capitalism on top.

In the Spring of 2010 TheRiot asked Louisiana State Senator Danny Martiny to change the Louisiana Public Records law drawing the ire of good government activists in Jefferson Parish.  Slabbed made an editorial decision to become involved and I subsequently welcomed Senator Martiny to the legendary Warren Suite at the Do Slabb Inn. Within a few days Martiny appeared on Fox 8 cryin’ that people thought he was some kind of crook.  The Parish Council ran for the hills pulling the rug out from under Martiny and this in turned caused me to opine Senator Martiny was a stooge.  Now Slabbed has since gone easy on Senator Martiny as he really is not the devil reincarnate as he was the guy that pushed the Louisiana version of the SPEECH Act through the legislature so we obviously share some common ground.

So with that set up let’s review a few of the points in Drew Broach’s story on this topic:

  • The Parish council met last week in secret with hospital officials and others. Out of that meeting came the request to change LA R.S. 46:1064.2 which would exempt the hospital from the public vote provisions in that law.
  • Both hospital boards are stacked with political insiders and are notorious troughs where crony capitalism, double dealing and self enrichment are the rule of the day.
  • The request to change the law was done with “no public discussion, and no dissenting vote on the council.”
  • Potential public opposition was cited by Sheriff Noodles Norman as the reason for stripping this civil liberty from the taxpaying public. Sheriff Noodles, when he is not palling around with washed up actors like Steven Seagal or arresting criminals is the Chairman of the East Jefferson Medical Center Board of Directors.
  • Chris Robert$, Cynthia Lee $heng, Elton LaGa$$e are all responsible for the River Birch debacle and their judgment is not to be tru$ted.
  • Cockroaches like to operate: Continue reading “Coming soon from the gang that caused the Performing Arts Center and River Birch debacles. Let’s make a new deal!”

On the finance boards it is called Due Diligence……Who is Diversified Ventures?????

Due Diligence:
[doo dil-i-juhns]
1 : such diligence as a reasonable person under the same circumstances would use : use of reasonable but not necessarily exhaustive efforts called also reasonable diligence

Folks I am still shaking my head about today’s Times Picayune crooks and liars endorsement. That said we’ll stay on the crooks and liars here on Slabbed and in today’s installment we’ll bust Chrissy and again link him to State Representative Girod Jackson III, owner of Diversified Ventures as we hop into the way back machine and visit with this jewel of a comment Telemachus left with us last year:

{FB Poster (no, not moi)} to Walt Bennetti on or around 11/11/10: (ClickJefferson.com): “What about fictitious companies such as Diversified that got a$ 50k payment from the parish ‘on the fly’ post Katrina?” 3 hours ago ·

Senator Danny Martiny back in the news.

Senator Martiny, when asked about his neighbors in Lakeview

Love your neighbor as yourself; but don’t take down the fence.

Is anyone surprised by this Fox 8 report by Kim Holden?

“FOX 8 also asked State Senator Danny Martiny about a house he owns on Colbert Street in Lakeview. It’s the only house in the 6100 block that’s visibly in need of repair.

Records show Martiny bought the property in 2007 and hasn’t gotten a building permit on it yet. Martiny tells FOX 8 he’s selling the house to his son, who just got his renovation plans back from the architect…..

Martiny says “It’s not the ideal house to live next to, but it was never my intention to buy the property and keep it boarded up.”

Rockin’ on 3 years there Dano.

Slabbed takes a look back at Theriot v Cyberspace and ties a few things together as we again call for his resignation.

Steve Theriot / Times Picayune Archival Photo

I recently had one of those famous Slabbed Ah-Ha moments where what seemed to be unrelated events clicked. The result is this post as we can examine the recent events that ended with Mr Theriot withdrawing his very ill advised lawsuit against the blogosphere in context. Unfortunately I’ll also explain why the Slabbed Nation should remained armed and vigilant as the thugs on the Parish Council and their waterboy Steve Theriot are busy hatching the next scheme to eliminate dissent inside Parish Government and trample the free speech rights of those who comment on Parish Government from the outside. Let’s begin with the Ah-Ha moment which came courtesy of a recent article by Rich Rainey at the Times Picayune:

The Internet has become an electrified third rail in Jefferson Parish government.

Most recently, interim Parish President Steve Theriot sued to uncover the identities behind anonymous user names on the website www.NOLA.com. After enduring days of public scoffing, he dropped the lawsuit this week.

But his administration’s wrestling with the online world goes back further.

In January, when Theriot took office in the dust storm of Aaron Broussard’s resignation, chief administrative officer Jose Gonzalez — himself newly appointed after Broussard’s top executive, Tim Whitmer, resigned — said he discovered a wide swath of parish employees with Internet access were abusing it. Young at heart – well, not exactly, but… Jefferson Parish felt the heat, Young claims to have seen the light on Public Records

Val Bracy had the story – Public records bill under fire from councilman – but,I’m not so certain Jefferson Parish Councilman John Young, or anyone on the Council for that matter,  really understands the concept of open government.  Young’s proposed resolution is a step in the right direction but it should not take heat for any elected official to see the light on open public records:

The Jefferson Parish council is expected to undo a controversial step it took at its last meeting. The council voted in favor of having the parish’s legislative delegation sponsor a bill that would make changes to state public records laws.

On Wednesday, Councilman John Young will introduce a resolution rescinding the council’s support.

“I think there was some communication and some misinformation. Obviously, it was our understanding, or my understanding, that the US Attorney had a problem with the grand jury subpoenas. I’ve since learned that that’s not a problem,” said Young.

While Young “makes nice”, Senator Danny Martiny offers an excuse that only a Parish-puppet would let come out of his mouth: Continue reading “Young at heart – well, not exactly, but… Jefferson Parish felt the heat, Young claims to have seen the light on Public Records”

Slabbed joins the Louisiana public records battle and welcomes career politician and stooge Danny Martiny to the Do Slabb Inn. (The “Warren” executive suite, extra nice)

Louisiana State Senator Danny "Stooge" Martiny

I have an inbox have full of emails and we’ve had more than a few comments here on the recent attempt of the political class in Jefferson Parish to substantially weaken the Louisiana Public Records law. This is typical behavior for the cockroaches in government over at the Yenni Building and State Senator Martiny has plenty of bona fides in with the political machine that runs Parish Government.

Before I highlight the media coverage I’d like to address Senator Martiny directly and say that I’m certain that once upon a time, before the thirst for power and money corrupted your soul, you were most likely a decent guy. To the general public watching this saga unfold including your own constituents, you now come across as a complete stooge reflective of the dishonest self entitled piece of crap you’ve become sir. Sorry to be so blunt but this isn’t one of Tim Whitmer’s love letters to Dawn, this is a legal affairs blog.

With that said let’s highlight the coverage in order beginning with a Bill Barrow report for the Times Picayune:

As the Legislature prepares to convene Monday, Sen. Danny Martiny, R-Kenner, is pushing two measures that would add new exemptions to Louisiana public records law.
