Folks I don’t live in the proverbial land of milk and honey but there are some stark differences in how Government works over here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. One area the contrast is stark is in Code enforcement. To wit:
It is my intention to cast a light on those who do their jobs well. To that end, a man worthy of recognition is Mr. Tommy Kidd, the Environmental Consultant for Hancock County and Bay St. Louis.
Mr. Kidd not only coordinates hazardous waste disposals, but he traverses the county and Bay St. Louis to insure that any unsafe properties are cleaned up. He works with the individual property owners so the cleanup is completed in a timely fashion, and that the waste is disposed of properly. Additionally, he has assisted Waveland with their beautification efforts, even though he has no contract with them – only one example of going above and beyond.
I have witnessed how Mr. Kidd works with property owners first hand. He is kind and compassionate. Some have problems remaining from Katrina, and others have new issues. But, no matter the cause, he treats everyone with dignity and respect.
We were the contact party for several lots owned by a friend. Without our knowledge, local subcontractors had been using the lot to dump their waste materials, i.e. paint, sheetrock, scrap wood, etc. Mr. Kidd contacted me regarding the matter, and assisted us in having the debris removed. We were never threatened with legal action as so many others do. He has exceptional public relations skills and promotes community goodwill.
And in today’s Sun Herald we have this from Melissa Scallan:
Gulfport has had great success with its environmental court, said Rick Ryan, chief of code enforcement and environmental compliance for the city. Continue reading “Lets kick off the New Year Gretna style and examine city government at its worst.”
Well folks I thought Mississippi voters were the most accomplished at shooting themselves in the foot but I think I’ve changed my mind and Jefferson Parish School Board member Michael R. Delesdernier is the reason.
Like the City of Kenner, Jefferson Parish Schools are a cesspool of corruption separate from the big show in Parish Government. That said, the school district, one of the lowest rated in the entire state has also proven itself something of a proving ground for assorted miscreants such as Chris “Mini-me” Roberts, Elton Lagasse, Julie Quinn etc etc etc that aspire to take their double-dealing to the larger stage at the Yenni Building and beyond. Against that backdrop it should come as no surprise the current school board includes a thug in Pat Tovrea and a certified asshole in Delesdernier.
I mention this because there was school board election in Jefferson Parish last year and a slate of “business people” were put forward as the solution to all that ails the poorly performing school district. In Delesdernier case he unseated long time incumbent Judy Colgan and it appears the people in JPS District 8 have been suffering the results ever since. I say this not to praise Colgan, as the system deteriorated further during her tenure in office. This is the predictable end result when the folks running the system are actively looking for places to loot it out same as the old Orleans Parish School Board. If it is possible though, the voters elected a bigger bunch of crooked idiots that the ones already on board as a well-informed reader in Jefferson related to me after that last election. It is against that backdrop that I present last night’s Lee Zurik’s investigation into a shadow vote taken by the school board via email that resulted in a relatively minor policy matter becoming a major scandal.
“You know what an anarchist is… right? I think you are an anarchist too.” Continue reading “Is Jefferson Parish School Board Member Michael R. Delesdernier a complete asshole? Lee Zurik reports you decide.”
Folks I’m actually developing some sources here in response to some inquiries. For now this Op-Ed is a decent starting point.
Why are Jefferson Parish Schools some of the worst in the state of Louisiana?
See Pat Tovrea run for School Board.
See JPSB member Pat Tovrea harass central office employees.
See JPSB member Pat Tovrea stalk central office employees.
See JPSB member Pat Tovrea bully central office employees.
See Employee file for a restraining order.
Maybe spending too much time with his nose up Tommy Capella’s hiney makes Pat an angry guy. Or maybe the thirst for loot makes Pat act like Tom Wilkinson during in his thirst for loot. Whatever the case this Pat Tovrea is a product of the machine. And the voters of Jefferson Parish are getting exactly the kind schools they deserve. The amazing thing is I bet there are some dedicated educators in the system that still give 100% trying to make a difference. It must really suck for those folks. I tell you folks this last bit of Wiley Beevers inspired homecooking in Judge McCabe’s courtroom is the gift that keeps on giving. For instance we only need to take the Wayback Machine to May 16, 2009 to find this Mini-me Roberts inspired Allen Powell jewel that also causes some collateral damage IMHO to others with political aspirations in 2011:
So a buncha Sopranos stormed the Governor’s Mansion on Thursday. Funny thing was, though, they weren’t from Jersey. Try Jefferson Parish.
These guys are a bunch of politicians, long fans of the HBO television show, who got together every Sunday to watch it and stuff their faces with authentic Italian fare. “We all gained a little weight during that time,” Parish Councilman Chris Roberts said.
After years of faithfully following the show, they took to wearing black fedoras when they got together, especially when the fun spilled into a local bar or restaurant afterward. Soon they started calling themselves the Black Hats. Continue reading ““Black Hat” West Bank Soprano Chris Roberts now wants to pretend he is not in the mob….”

Damaris, no doubt that releasing rates would be helpful, however you will painting your self in the corner with respect to turn around time from carriers as the majority of them are dealing with quotes for Jan 1st.
Also is MD Anderson coverage a requirement, if so that would a factor as well. Continue reading “Meet my gabby cousin Slabb O’Leak as we roll out a sneak peek of Tim Whitmer for the Slabbination”
Jarvis DeBerry and the Times Picayune editorial board have called out that dishonest piece of crap/school board member Mark Morgan today in separate articles and I noted that many members of local hog pack were mentioned such as Morgan and Judge Kurt Engelhardt whom along with Chris Roberts, Tom Capella and Arthur Lawson will form the basis for this post. First up is T-P columnist Jarvis DeBerry who takes Morgan out to the woodshed over his lack of honesty:
“I didn’t speak,” this paragon of honesty said. “I made comments.”
And now the Editorial Board of the T-P chips in on the same topic:
Mr. Morgan is waging an all-out campaign against the probe and administrators. That’s troubling, especially in light of Mr. Morgan’s role in Gretna No. 2’s admissions process on behalf of a family member. Continue reading “Rut Roh! Its double trouble Gretna style. An update from the pig pen.”

OK folks here is Chris Roberts speaking authoritatively on the topic of public officials taking responsibility.
I feel as though I know Roberts and not just because I’ve counted more than one Yat as a friend through the years. Continue reading “From the pig pen: Chris Roberts brays about “taking responsibility” on Channel 4.”
Given the 24th Judicial Districts Courts are located in Gretna I suspect it was a simple matter of time before the phrases “Grenta Style” and “Gretna Mentality” would enter into the lexicon of the Slabbed Nation in the aftermath of the impeachment proceedings against Tom Porteous as the systemic corruption of the state and federal courts was laid bare for the country to see as the participants tried to explain their behavior away by saying stuff like, that’s the way it was done in the Grenta courthouse.
But alas Porteous is yesterdays trash and there are a new group of hogs looting the public purse and doing favors for themselves such as Jefferson Parish School Board member Mark Morgan, who we profiled the other day. Morgan comes from the cesspool that is the Jefferson Parish DA’s office as did his Momma, who evidently was a political hack in her own right back in the day. Not as commonly known about Morgan was that he was a collegiate student athlete swimmer who so loved his “root suit” he had it framed for use as office decor.
Pigs like Morgan could not ply their self serving trade driving the local school district into the ground without a higher political patron however and that is where Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts comes into play. Here on Slabbed we know Roberts best as one of the crooked Jefferson Parish pols that appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 nightly back during the oil spill pumping Bobby Jindal’s sand berm boondoggle as he was evidently cut in on the back end graft associated with the no bid dredge contracts.
So now that we have the players set up let’s review. Continue reading “Failing public schools in Jefferson Parish? Let’s examine how the Gretna mentality contributes”
