Slabb O’Leak sends this:
Folks the wheels of justice turn very slowly and such is the case with double dealing Scott Fontenot as it was revealed today he was charged with 21 ethics violations in connection with selling health insurance to Jefferson Parish. My own opinion is that Fontenot will assuredly be facing federal charges and my sources in the auditing community tell me the legislative auditor has a fairly scathing report on Mr. Fontenot coming too.
Rich Rainey broke this ethics story for the T-P. Fontenot’s lawyer Jenny Jackson best be dialing up her A game because her client will need all the help he can get. I’ve got the insurance committee emails courtesy of my gabby cousin Slabb O’Leak and never rolled them out. Of course such is also the reason I think Scotty will be beamed straight to one of Uncle Sam’s finer regional penal institutions before this is done. Trust me folks this part of the great Jefferson Parish Taxpayer Ripoff is garden variety petty corruption but it is especially sleazy in how brazen the parties to the double deal truly were.
Finally, as an added bonus Rich snags some quotes from perennial slabbed fav Dane Ciolino, one of Tim Whitmer’s lawyers. I personally hope Dane is making Tim’s asshole bleed with each bill.
This is old news by now folks. In reality nothing much happened today except that the marriage between Teams Letten and Mouton was made official today by Judge Martin Feldman. If Mr Mouton delivers the goods as expected he will get off very light. Game theory has a very good explanation of what lead us to this point in the concept of Prisoner’s Dilemma. Mouton is the first documented squealer so it is fair to believe he is in line for the best deal from Team Letten. For Aaron Broussard, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Whitmer and wifey Dawn this may not be perceived as bad news for them but trust folks it is very bad news for them.
With what we’ve seen on these pages about Mouton, if he delivers like we all think he can I personally have no problem with the 50 lashes with a wet noodle concept for him.
We’re also getting similar reports from St Charles Avenue and Plaquemines Parish. Please proceed with caution.
Folks, it appears that Sir James is not impressed by the hired guns at Loren C Scott and Associates either. His column today on this topic is a must read, along with the one he did last week on Edwin Edward’s release from prison. (Hat tip ‘Gate)

Email messages are pouring in with links to Rich Rainey’s story for the Times-Picayune – Aaron Broussard and Tim Whitmer charged with violating state ethics laws
Former Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard is facing state ethics charges for accepting $4,500 in Christmas gifts from his staff and for his involvement in 2009 with a private insurance agency owned by his top aide, Tim Whitmer, while the two men were running the parish government.
The Louisiana Board of Ethics alleged Broussard violated the state ethics code between 2007 and 2009 for accepting gift certificates from his staff. He is also charged with accepting “a thing of economic value” from Lagniappe Industries, the insurance agency Whitmer owned with his wife, Dawn, while Lagniappe “had a contractual or other business or financial relationship with his agency, Jefferson Parish,” the charges state.
Broussard has admitted to doing $5,000 in “legal work” for Lagniappe Industries in the summer of 2009.
Whitmer faces 30 charges that he violated the state ethics code. The majority of those stem from Lagniappe’s work selling health insurance to West Jefferson Medical Center while Whitmer was the parish’s No. 2 executive and serving on the parish’s Insurance Advisory Committee. “I can unequivocally state that all members of the administration of West Jefferson Medical Center were shocked to learn of the involvement of both Mr. Coulon and Mr. Whitmer in this insurance scandal” – Peter Butler Jr to WWL TV’s Paul Murphy.
As Nowdy joked offline in our informal editorial board round robin today, “the population of Jefferson Parish is almost “20-25% of entire state of Mississippi…God knows how much larger the JP population would be if those in the landfills were counted!” The skeletons are staggering even by Mississippi proportions and those that followed the Scruggs saga know Louisiana has no strangle-hold on systemic corruption but the politicians and their cronies in the New Orleans area take that corruption to new heights. As an observer of the goings on in New Orleans from just over the state line I howled with laughter many years ago after a federal bankruptcy judge joked that the difference between Mississippi pols and those in Louisiana was that in Mississippi the brown paper bag had a bottom. Simply put this is a target rich environment. Continue reading “Pigs love mud and the greedy little piggies at West Jefferson Medical Center are in up to their necks.
