Dumbest move ever in history of Katrina litigation goes to Lexington Insurance for letting this claim ever reach the point of litigation, much less letting it cool its heels in State court – Gollott v Lexington.
What makes the move dumb is not the fact that Tommy Gollott is the longest serving member of the State Legislature and an all-around great guy, it’s that you simply don’t threaten Senator Gollott. He served 40 years as a Democrat, a powerful one at that, but serves his current term as a Republican.
Gollott said he made his decision to switch because of the threat by the State Executive Committee of the Mississippi Democratic Party to decertify any nominee who has supported a Republican in the past.
A successful businessman, Gollott has the money to go the distance. IMO, however, this one is going to cost Lexington some money – it’s just a question of how much but it will be a lot.
Moving on to surprise moves brings us to Rebecca Mowbray’s rah-rah story on Zurich Insurance.
Next, a bold move – this one from supporters of former Alabam governor Don Siegelman.
Seventy-five former state attorneys general, including ten Republicans, have sent a letter to Holder saying that Siegelman’s defense lawyers have raised “gravely troublesome facts” about whether he got a fair trial, reports the New York Times.
Last, a move too dumb to be called a dumb move but an excellent example of ignorance is bliss.
Oh the (rare, but occasionally exceptional) joys of Twitter. Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX)–the ranking member on the House Energy & Commerce Committee–says (tweets?) “I seemed [sic] to have baffled the Energy Sec with basic question – Where does oil come from?”
He’s referring to Nobel prize winning Energy Secretary Steve Chu…Late update: My colleague Eric Kleefeld chimes in to suggest that Barton didstump Chu. In fact, Chu was stumped that this guy Barton (a Congressman) had actually asked that question.
Someone please tell the Congressman, the word is not “stumped” – try “stunned”.

Those that listened to the USM spring game on the internet evidently got quiet the sex ed lesson, something our lawmakers still refuse to authorize in our public schools where rumor has it sex is rampant. While the religious right prefers ignorance to knowledge as a strategy and general rule it is clearly not working.
This is fair warning that I will physically assault the next get rich quick idiot that dares to ask me about the upcoming flood damaged cottage auction in Hancock County. True story but my blogging days almost ended Friday on an assault charge when a get rich quick pig told me about his grand plan to buy some of those cottages and rent them out. He didn’t believe me when I told him they would not be allowed to remain in Mississppi and was rather cool to my suggestion that he take them to his home state to rent out to the people there. Evidently the Hancock County Board of Supervisors also tire of being approached by these houseflies with grand rental plans as the Seacoast Echo reports in their article “Supers won’t let flooded cottages back in Hancock“.
