Folks, it seems like once the perv politician starts thumping on the bible, otherwise sensible, rational people take complete leave of their senses. In my opinion, the framers of the constitution were very wise to include the First amendment and its accompanying 6 freedoms in the Constitution, including freedom from state sponsored religion, not that 45% of Americans can even name that freedom let alone the other five.
Maybe one day people will learn to run like hell when a politician starts playing preacher man but probably not in my lifetime.
To be honest the last few months have shown that liberals and conservatives are caught up in the bad bed side manners. It is hard to be human. Since the biblical times these things have gone on now it has become a way to trap the wealthy into huge settlements. Just being the devils advocate!
Since biblical times lots of horrible things have gone on but humans have gradually instituted laws to try to prevent them. Break the laws and there are consequences. I would not call the consequences traps but your mileage may vary. Still, it is remarkable how many of the preachy pols turn out to be total hypocrites. Back in biblical times they were aptly known as whited sepulchers.

As far as suing the only one of the three I linked that has been sued is Robert Bentley and that was by his former wife of 50 years when she sued him for divorce along the people he terminated in his attempt to cover up his extra martial affair with Rebecca Mason.
Used to be the GOP was the political party that kept Big Brother out of people’s bedrooms. Today, they want to regulate how we use the toilet. Its a sad state of affairs all the way around.
Peggy, interesting history lesson. Maybe if we stoned a few of these hypocrites old school style the rest would shy away from using the bible as a vote getting tool. On a personal note, my own opinion is those that live their faiths, as opposed to those that proclaim it, are the most effective ambassadors of their religious beliefs.

This has been one sex riddled news feeding frenzy this month with our so called entertainers, now the politicians.
If these alleged predators are guilty of the charges, they need to be axed.
However, it is curious, at least in the political arena, that these allegations always seem to come out during an election cycle.
The victims need to report these attacks when they happen, not years later when they guy is running for office. That would at least keep voters from getting involved in phony campaigns that leaves egg on everyone’s face and a whole lot less money in their pockets.
AND, this newsfeed also takes everyone’s attention off of the real issues at hand.
Now, the entertainment industry. Please don’t anyone post here that they are shocked that this goes on in that environment.
The entertainers (and celebrity chefs) are not analogous with the evangelical politicians beyond the sexual component. All that said when the sexual harassment scandal hit Congress it showed the scope of that problem as well.
One thing that connects the two issues is a lack of respect, for people of faith’s sincerely held religious beliefs and for women. Politicians like Roy Moore would never use religion to get votes if they truly respected their purported faith. Of course, Moore didn’t respect his own oath of office as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court so this latest news about him allegedly fondling a 14 year old (along with three other very young women) surprises me not in the least bit.
As for the entertainers Slabbed has a long history of dissing them. Don’t get me started on Kevin Spacey…..

O kay, bear with me. I just read the girl’s account of her “encounters” with Roy Moore. To be honest, I am having a little trouble with her story. At 14, she met him around the corner from her house, drove 30 minutes out of town. That’s another 30 minutes back not counting the time she claims they spent together. I would have been looking for my 14 year old daughter by then, and I guaranty you I would have gotten to the bottom of it. I know nothing about this man, but this is not selling on me.
I could be totally wrong, and have no use for men like that, but I am just not getting the vibes that she is telling the truth.
Whether or not she is, she has ruined someone’s reputation. That is very serious. Very. And the timing is suspicious. I am understanding better why she didn’t report it then. She went off with him twice voluntarily, if this happened at all.
No wonder only 35% of registered voters go to the polls. People are growing weary of politics and especially campaigns.
Earlier this morning GMA ran a segment with a NYT reporter on how the Louis CK wanker story made the NY Times, as ostensibly opposed to the hosts of websites that have already reported on it going back a decade. She leaves out the part about the stars being aligned but otherwise this is what she said:
1. The women Louis CK beat off in front of came forward by name and gave the NYT names of their friends and family that were aware of the CK’s bizarre behavior at the time it happened.
2. The NYT interviewed those people with an eye towards spotting any discrepancies in the story.
3. The stories lined up where the NYT felt it could run the story.
The above is standard interviewing techniques used by journalists, law enforcement, CFEs etc etc etc.
WaPo did all those same things with now 53 YO, then 14 year old Leigh Corfman and the then three other teenage girls who all alleged the same bad behavior out of Roy Moore, behavior that their friends and family were also contemporaneously aware. In Corfman’s case Moore used his official position as an ADA to take advantage of her when she was a 14 year old. Its disgusting and indefensible behavior.
The fact is and the point of this post is that politicians like Roy Moore and his enablers are doing Satan’s work on earth leading otherwise faithful people astray. Matthew 18:6 is clearly applicable here.
Two lesser points that also bear saying is self professed Evangelicals like Roy Moore are the exact reason millennials are leaving established religion in droves and based on the examples being set its hard to fault them for that.
The other point is that some of the very same people now defending Roy Moore were also pushing the preposterous pizza gate story that the far right lapped up like it was Obama’s birth certificate. Ever wonder what the purveyors of trash like Roy Moore and Pizzagate really think about their marks?
The Hollywood types and alternative life style people (Libs) demand respect of each individual and human dignity and the Conservatives preach religion they are one in the same when breached. So I don’t get the GOP branding as worse because of how they hid it. This labeling is only for the public violators. either way they erred. Most don’t come out until the affair didn’t work or after they made shit loads of money.

First of all, French states clearly that he really does not know if Moore is guilty, then goes on a few paragraphs later to say how dangerous he is.
He claims that the women did not go to the press, the press reached out to them. How did they find them?
What is terribly troubling in French’s story is he claim that there were witnesses at the time who knew what was going on!!!
Why didn’t they report this? I would say they were enabling Moore, or aiding and abetting a criminal. My goodness, this child was 14.
French ends his article with a strong statement that Moore is guilty, and should expelled from public service.
I have no problem with that, but I think it is criminal to waste all of this information and declarations from witnesses and stop short of prosecuting Moore for this. He committed a crime, and SOMEONE, like maybe a DA should seat a Grand Jury, subpoena these witnesses, and take him to court.
He can’t just be put out of a political race, and that serve as justice for him. No way. This is a serious crime they are charging him with and the proper authorities need to pick him up, and start the process. This needs to be taken out of the political arena, and taken to a court of law where it belongs.
Let’s not try him in the Court of Public Opinion where no one is sworn. Let’s do it the right way, and put him away with all of the other child predators if that can be proven against him.

First off you’re right, Moore does need to be hauled into court charged with sexual assault. My understanding is since his 14 year old victim was incapable of giving consent, the statute of limitations would not toll on this crime.
Second this is an election not a prosecution. No question in my mind that 4 different young women terrorized by Moore are telling the truth, just as I believe Kevin Spacey’s many accusers. There is simply no way that many people would get together to conspire against either.
Third and most important is Moore’s history of disregarding his oath of office when it suits him politically (see his two impeachments from public office). Just like with Crooked Donald Trump a leopard never changes its spots.

There is a delay in some of the conprofit’s IRS filings?!
However, one major omission from the Foundations returns was that it had not filed 990s for 2015 or 2016. Filings are supposed to be made at the end of each year. According to IRS rules, organizations that have under $1 million in gross receipts are charged a penalty of $20 per day for each day the return is late, up to a maximum of $10,000. For over $1 million in gross receipts, organizations are charged $100 a day up to a maximum of $50,000. If a company doesn’t file for three straight years it can lose its tax exempt status, according to IRS rules. The Foundation currently has gross receipts under $1 million but has previously had receipts over $1 million.
As way of explanation, Kayla Moore’s executive assistant said that the organization had a reason for not filing over the last two years. “The accountant that normally does our tax returns has been sick and almost died,” said Jessica Deem. “He has since spoken with the IRS and the missing 2015 return will be filed in the next few days. And we have an extension on the 2016 return.”
Because of the delay, those filings, which would include any fundraising and expenditures after Moore’s defiance of a court ruling on same-sex marriage, will likely not be made public until after the August 15 primary.

If you really want to understand the problem, it helps to see what studies have found. This summary, for example, from the NY Times:

It’s really not good idea to assume women are lying about these things or that they are at fault for not reporting them back when the incidents happened. There are far too many stories where “everyone knew” but no one, male or female, did anything to help stop the perpetrator because he was too powerful or important.
My hat is off to Doug. There aren’t that many men who are willing to stand up for women regarding this issue. Even rarer are people who will point out the all too frequent religion-perversion connection. Heaven knows, those of us raised Catholic are aware of how often these people have used the church as a cloak for their activities. The same is obviously true of evangelical and other religions. Whether they deliberately choose to use religion to hide under, or genuinely enter into religious life as preachers, etc., in hopes of curing their problem, the result is the same for their victims. Blaming the victims is no answer to the problem at all.
Meanwhile, as for Moore, yes, he should be prosecuted, but he’s also up for an election that occurs long before any prosecution can run its course. Alabamians need to know everything that’s alleged about him before they go to the polls. They can then weigh the stories for themselves and make up their own minds about him. It’s entirely obvious at this point that he’s no innocent lamb being smeared by the wicked. When you answer, “Not generally, no,” and only “with her mother’s permission” about dating teenagers when you were thirty, you’ve got a real problem.

Out of curiosity I read some of the Facebook comments by voters who actually live in Alabama, who, I would assume would know more about him as compared to the national politicos in other states who are demanding he step down.

I am reading today voters in Alabama are reporting that the WaPo had reporters in town offering $$$ for “dirt on Moore.” One of them accidentally called his sister. When she told them she was a family member, they hung up on her. So the back and forth has begun.

Mike Ortiz, an ex-boyfriend of Corfman told CNN she relayed the story to him when they dated for about two years around 2009. Corfman’s description to the Post fits what she told him to a tee, he said.
“But I believed her when she told me and I still believe her,” he said on CNN. “She wouldn’t lie about something like that.”

Does this article appearing in the local Gadsden paper make you wonder about the community? Do they read their own local paper? There are so many still in defense of this man, and ready to vote for him.
I read all of these accounts today ( it was not pleasant reading) and thought this is a Sandra Bullock movie in the making–deep south–young teen–no father figure in her life– a mother who abdicates her responsibility to keep her child safe by not only allowing her to be alone in the company of a man neither of them know– but actually thinking it was so “nice” of him to want to “take care of my little girl.” That statement by the Mother gave me the total creeps. Do we have a weak gene pool here?
It is a given that no child molester has the right to abuse our children, but parents have the responsibility to prevent them from having the opportunity.
And according to this article, he did not drive her home from the Courthouse. She gave him her number, and he picked her up a few days later around the corner from her home.
So, this young teen was up for an adventure. The first encounter didn’t scare her enough. She went back for more.
The saddest statement of all by the girl is that she was so flattered that a grown man was paying attention to her. That broke my heart. A girl with a real father figure in her life would have had that need filled from birth. Tragic.
She finally tells her Mother in the 90’s who is then “shocked!” Give me a break.
I know we have a celebrity figure involved here, but unfortunately, you can multiply this situation by the thousands in our society today.
And that is the real tragedy.

None of these allegations against Moore (made by multiple victims) appear to be outside the typical patterns of child or adolescent sexual abuse by those in positions of power.
Just my inexpert opinion – but his words appear to make the case:
Moore began the interview by saying the allegations were “completely false and misleading.” But he seemed to waver throughout the interview.
Hannity went through the Post story and detailed the allegations of the four accusers. Moore claimed to know two of four, but denied any instance of misconduct with either. In response to the allegations involving Debbie Wesson Gibson, Moore said, “I don’t remember going out on dates. I knew her as a friend. If we did go out on dates, then we did. But I don’t remember that.”
Also this- note that after Moore thinks about his answers during the break the denial becomes more vehement…he has been an attorney and judge…so he understands questions and answers…why should someone need to think about these questions and answers and make a stronger denial later after expressing such a high degree of ambiguity… unless the moral compass is pointing to abuser or worse?
Asked if he remembers dating teenage women when he was older than 30, Moore said, “Not generally, no.”
“I don’t remember dating any girl without the permission of her mother,” he said. He later pointed to The Post’s story and said, “These two young girls actually said their mothers encouraged them to be friends with me.”
After a commercial break, Moore became more forceful in his denials of dating teenagers. He said doing so “would be out of my customary behavior” and that he “never” would have dated a teen without her mother’s permission.

If you’ve lived at all in the world you know there are many people, certainly women, who are a good deal less confident and capable than those of us here are of standing up for themselves, and who are more likely to be (or to have been when young) impressed enough by some men to get themselves into a stupid situation. That doesn’t mean they deserve what they get or should shut up now when finally they have some safety in the numbers of people speaking up. Reams have been written about the shame and disgrace they feel, the self-questioning about their own perceptions of what happened. The whole issue would be a good deal simpler if all women (men too) were clear thinking, unaffected by material considerations, articulate, and outspoken enough to raise hell when an incident occurs. That’s not the case. That’s not even an ideal which most women were taught or encouraged to reach when I was young, and I doubt that many of them are being encouraged to reach it today.
Being able to leave politics out of it would be a nice improvement as well. Feminists didn’t do women any favors when they gave Bill Clinton a pass when he was accused of rape and assault because he was from the correct side of the political aisle. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong, no matter who does it.

Well, to be fair, pussy grabbing liberals don’t seem to have any problem holding themselves out as morally superior and above we unwashed rabble as much as any right wing preacher. I just can’t help but remember how many times we have been lectured on morals by the same Hollywood liberals who participated and enabled the mass sexual harassment and perversion these losers made a part of their industry and standards.
Hollywood actors, right wing preachers, and politicians share some characteristics. All are “on stage” much of the time, hoping to make it big by gaining loads of followers/supporters. The more they succeed, the more powerful they become, the less likely anyone will blow the whistle on them, so by the time they reach a more powerful status they are more protected from consequences of bad actions and probably less likely to feel bound by the conventional behavior of us ordinary mortals. Not surprising that so many allegations are coming from these three professions.
Roy Moore needs to step down today so the WaPo and those 42 Congressmen who have tried and convicted him can get busy on Robert Menendez.

Okay, now we have a real game changer in the Roy Moore case. Gloria Allred’s client is willing to give her testimony under oath, under penalty of perjury. That is bad news for Roy, bad.
The others didn’t make that offer, but this is what needs to happen. If the Senate Judiciary Committee does not own up to Allred’s request for a hearing before the election, she should arrange for her client to at least give her testimony under a lie detector test.
And so what if a Democrat wins? Is there is any real difference between the two anymore?!
This woman could make the other accusers look bad too if they don’t follow suit.
The truth is, Roy aMoore probably did exactly what he is accused of. And, if he gets taken down, that is a real improvement over the days a Senator could drown a woman, and go plan his media and police response while she was still fighting for life in an air pocket, and then continue serving in the Senate like nothing had happened. Finish Moore off and move on to the others in Washington who are even worse.

Actually not Lana. Notice Moores attorney did not deny he signed the year book, rather he asked if the signature was real or forged.
Looking at the year book signature compared to Moore’s on court documents, they look like an exact match to me.

The thing I do find strange, Doug, is the initials after Moore’s name.
Those are the initials of his Clerk who would sign documents for him and put his initials on them.

In my opinion, Allred should have vetted her client better, and she should have been the one to have a forensic handwriting expert verify it. After all, she had never met this woman before. I know I would have.
You fail to acknowledge that Moore did not directly deny being the yearbook writer. Saying it could be forged while not directly denying being the writer is bullshit. I believe Allred’s client as surely as I do the rest.
I didn’t say I did not believe her. But, in my opinion, she should have left the yearbook part out of her story.
She had access to his handwriting to copy, Allred neglected to verify it. I just find that part very suspicious, sloppy legal work.
I go back to my original statement from last week– they ALL, Moore and accusers need to be sworn and make their statements.
Guess that will take civil suits because the statute has expired.
I do not see where Allred had any responsibility to verify what her own “lying eyes” can plainly see (along with everyone elses).

Allred could put this guy away, and should stop wasting time doing it. She is a seasoned attorney. She should have a forensic handwriting expert verify that yearbook post, draw up an affidavit for Mrs. Nelson to sign with the whole story in it, send both to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, of whom she is demanding a hearing, and tell Roy Moore and his staff and legal team they’ll see him in D.C.
She does have an obligation to not only the truth but to her client and her profession.
