Someone has not gotten the memo the local gaming market is saturated and then some…..

This isn’t quite as harebrained as Paradise Bay nor do the promoters appear to have the baggage but we’re approaching the zip code of economic futility with the long talked about and never built Diamondhead Casino.  The lack of capital to fund several gaming projects here on the coast including the Rotate Black group should give everyone a big clue as to the economic viability of these proposals.

But now that the Mississippi DMR’s Jamie Miller has suddenly discovered the environmental mission of the agency makes the whole deal way too rich, especially since I’m in the process of authoring a post that examines Miller’s tenure at DMR as Phil Bryant’s Biloxi based water boy.

  1. You just wonder if someone is looking for a “contribution” to their nonprofit like the $250,000 given to Walker by the IP Casino for permission to disturb the mud. That permit was issued the day the check was delivered to the Bolton Building.

  2. Was this opinion Miller gave based on fact through a study? What brought him to that conclusion? Is the study available to the public and who did it, if one exist?

    1. I think using the terms “Jamie Miller” and “study” in the same sentence may be a bit strong in this application.

  3. Apparently “someone” has gotten to the Chairman of the Gaming Commission for him to be prepared to make a recommendation tomorrow on an “opinion” he requested from the DMR. Guess he doen’t get the newspaper or have a TV–relying on an opinion from the DMR would be risky at best, maybe something a novice would do or someone who has never heard of them.
If the Gaming Commission buys this, it will be the beginning of how new casinos get approved.
These are the kind of “things” that get us written up in Forbes Magazine as one of the most corrupt states to do business in. This and our “elections!!!”

  4. Doug,
Just breaking Facebook: new Casino approved in diIberville.
The Moss Point Police Chief who just resigned is now with the DMR
Haven’t heard how the Jacobs hearing went today before the Gaming Commission.

  5. You can add to the list of those who have not gotten the message that there is a Casino “Glut” the Waveland City officials. Where in Waveland are they going to put a Casino? Now, that should be the first question answered.
Research is going to have to be the name of the game here.
The beach front residential area in Waveland is just now really coming back. How will this sit with those who have gone out on a limb and invested in the beach front, one of the juicier sections of Waveland’s ad valorem base?
Hope it at least goes up for a vote, and the location should be locked in before they go to the polls.
