It’s fighting Mayor Tommy Schafer to you….

The number one complaint I hear from politicians is how unfair, ugly and viscous social media can be towards those in public service. Fair enough because there is a kernel of truth in that notion but it is also true that a politico acting like an 8 year old can do much more reputation damage to themselves and their community. That is certainly true of Diamondhead and its Mayor fighting Tommy Schafer after last week.

My suggestion to those that were horrified to see the town in the national news would do well to elect folks with a temperament for the the trade.

A vote that will determine the continued existence of the Diamondhead POA is on the horizon. With the sheer number of Louisiana expats living there who hail from a far different political milieu, bareknuckle jackassery potential is off the charts.

Bay-Waveland Schools earns an A on the latest MDE Accredition Results

Folks this never would have happened if Mike Favre had not cut the dead wood out of the school board (and central office) when he took office. Our readers may remember Mayor Favre took a whole bunch of heat when he made those changes. Today he gets to take a bow for doing the right thing and seeing it through. Superintendent Reed and her employees also deserve props for the major improvement.

Also of note was rural Stone County Schools also earned an A. The rural school districts in this state often do way more with less and that is the certainly the case with Stone.

It’s not a good sign that when the Fed cuts interest rates…

And the markets still get hammered.

I’ve had some very learned people that are high level institutional financial professionals tell me that when the hangover comes it may be worse than 2008. With the yield curve inversion, to Trump’s ill advised trade wars that he promised were “good and easy to win” to major tax increases on the American people via Trump/GOP tariffs the economic headwinds are undeniable and negative interest rates will not solve them.

The best way for the little people to prepare themselves is to get debt free.

Is the City of Bay St Louis’ plan to buy the Compton Engineering Building Truly a Done Deal?

The last time we heard of Compton and the City mentioned together it involved Bay Taxpayers, Utility Users Stuck Repaying Excessive Post Katrina Engineering Firm Fees. Then again I would term it highly unusual for a City Councilman to negotiate anything on behalf of a strong Mayor charter City but the tape doesn’t lie.

The question I have is under what metric does it make sense to headquarter a police department in the flood zone in a building that was never intended for that purpose? I imagine the flood premiums on the property would be astronomical not to mention the place would be a tear down after it floods again and yes it is a question of when that happens not if it does. This proposed done deal smells like dead fish to me.

The atmosphere right now in the Bay Council is toxic enough there is no telling what will happen next. It has Slabbed’s full attention in fact.
