Slabbed joins NOLA.com | The Times Picayune in remembering the fall of Aaron Broussard plus five

I have so many nuggets that never went down into the memory hole like the following and boy howdy does the gang get themselves in trouble telling all sorts of whoppers! Threatened with a foreign defamation lawsuit in a noted area for libel tourism before the passage of the SPEECH Act the Times Picayune ran away from the libel terrorists at Trout Point Lodge like scared school girls. Five years ago plus one day an interview of Aaron Broussard was run on Fox 8 where he was challenged over what we now know to be criminal activity with certain Parish venders using his property at the Trout Point Lodge in Canada to conceal it. Five years ago today Broussard resigned in disgrace. Today he is in the Federal Pen with his buddies in Canada known as “ememies of the free press” and noted libel terrorists.

One media outlet stood tall in the face of this litigation terrorism and that would be Slabbed New Media. Enjoy.

  1. Doug, all I’m seeing here is a photo of a letter sent to the Picayune. I want to read the reporting you did on Broussard.

    1. That letter is special my friend for it represents the worse of libel terror enforced censorship as it has been banned in Boston.

      It started here:

      http://slabbed.org/2010/01/12/about-aaron-broussards-purported-ownership-of-trout-point-lodge/

      Really heated up here:

      http://slabbed.org/2011/09/08/slabbed-solves-the-mystery-on-the-shores-of-the-tusket-river-in-nova-scotia-as-we-reveal-the-trout-point-connection-to-the-jefferson-parish-political-corruption-scandal/

And then in January 2012 I began posting docs from the SLAPP suit against Fox 8.

Broussard’s partner in crime Roy D’Aquila evidently could not handle the pressure of the disclosures on Slabbed and died of a heart attack per Trout Point Lodge Canadian court testimony.

By August 2012 I gained access to the files Broussard left in the custody of the Parish of Jefferson and the muck really started to fly, Start here:

By September 11, 2012 it was rope ’em, throw ’em, brand ’em.

As a bonus, since Sal Perricone had commented on Slabbed I got a visit from the G men:

Here is the post tag with everything including the Riverbirch Landfill:

I have a whale of a book to write should the spirit strike me.

  2. Thank you for the chronological links! I’ll check them out.

It’s hard navigating through your stories sometimes, especially for those of us who haven’t been following along for several years.

  3. “Threatened with a foreign defamation lawsuit in a noted area for libel tourism before the passage of the SPEECH Act the Times Picayune ran away from the libel terrorists at Trout Point Lodge like scared school girls.” — Not only that, but inside sources tell me that a then-top TP manager — we’re talking name on the TP masthead — wrote at least some of the photo captions that prompted the threat of legal action — and then when TSHTF, he turned around and had the brazen, ass-covering, all-for-himself cajones to try to blame it on a relative peon, in-the-trenches, unassuming, nice-guy lifer of a lower-level editor.

    1. Julien = Wisdom. Multiple sources have told me that Rich Rainey was threatened with termination. The stories on Broussard and Canada that he and Paul Rioux wrote were pretty much dead on. It had to hurt to retract them.

  4. I feel this coverage and your Riverbirch coverage deserve an award of some type from the broader news industry. They are historic because they forever changed the way the press reports on white collar criminals.

  5. What is happening in Mississippi right now is so similar to all of the Louisiana corruption involving Broussard and his co-conspirators. You have such a similar mix of crooked politicians, big money cronies, self serving lobbyists and hand picked consultants looting the state’s taxpayer funded treasury using bogus business plans, no bid contracts, kickbacks, and campaign contributions to influence. This is really costing the people in so many ways. We can not fully fund education because corruption has to be paid for first. We can not afford a humane prison system because crooks are paying crooks to feed crooks expired food and stale bread at inflated prices. Public hospitals can’t afford to fund pensions because they are too busy building facilities that are not needed so a favorite contractor can keep on contracting. Cities have to borrow money to maintain facilities because cash on hand is needed to pay those damaged by the illegal acts being committed by elected officials. When will we have enough of our current leadership at all levels in our state? I pray daily the purge will happen very soon.

    1. That’s right. And just like with Broussard it’s like a cheap sweater, pull one thread the whole thing unravels.
