Just in case anyone was wondering how a relatively few individuals on Wall Street could almost single-handedly bankrupt the country and not a single person went to jail for any of the massive financial frauds that have come to light (we bailed them out instead) wonder no more as the good folks over at Zero Hedge compare and contrast campaign finance reports of Harry Reid with John Boehner pointing out both men are owned by corporate interests lock stock and barrel.
Now before the oil spill the politicians that were owned by big oil locally could be pretty open about that fact as Mary Landrieu’s career campaign finance reports indicate. I strongly suspect sight unseen Bobby Jindal got a bunch of oil and gas ca$h too as he got lots as a congressman. After the spill it just wouldn’t look so good for any politician that was excoriating BP to take campaign ca$h from them but it seems as if there is always willing middle man to spread the wealth and into our narrative enter Magnum JD, his partner and their nonrefundable $1.115 million dollar contract with BP to provide advice on how to deal with state officials. Let’s follow the money and take a looksie at a partial list of the fundraisers ol’ Mags held around that time period:
- Bobby Jindal – shortly before and after signing the contract with BP @ $1,000/person.
- Mary Landrieu from $2,400 down shortly after.
- Billy Nungesser – shortly before @ $1,000/person.
- Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell who was sighted with Magnum and Bull Durham shaking down BP with those useless machines Bull was peddling.
The bottom line here IMHO for you partisan political freaks is your politicians routinely sell you folks out in favor of the highest bidder. IMHO we need look no further to understand why most everyone’s standard of living has eroded significantly over the past 10 years while the wealth of the nation concentrates into the hands of fewer and fewer people.
Listen, I’m a politician which means I’m a cheat and a liar, and when I’m not kissing babies I’m stealing their lollipops. But it also means I keep my options open.

Awesome post, SOP. Until the electorate wakes up and starts realizing that most politicians are in this for a “career” and not to serve the greater good, our once-great country will continue its slide into the financial abyss. The gridlock and fighting over the debt ceiling limit is a prime example. Lobbyist have so gummed up DC that we, the people, are the victims.
I wonder of Magnum and his sidekick James Williams are registered as BP lobbyists IMA?

To further illuminate that last point remember the wording of the letter Mags sent Holstein after the contract was signed.

While on the theme of ‘ follow the money ‘ let’s look at the newest screenplay for the TV reality series, ” As Benjamins Turn, So Turns Jindal”, scheduled to follow the highly publicized and anticipated “Fast Eddie’s Petting and Wetting Zoo”.
I suspect that the two major NOLA health care facilities, Tulane and Ochsner, may have ‘ghost’ written, directed and submitted ” More Benjamins To You, Fewer Beds for Us” to power producers,Vitter and Jindal, recommending downsizing the planned LSU Medical Research Complex in Mid-city.
If we can smell ‘ follow the money ‘ plays in the garbage world with all the dirty rats and disgusting odors can’t we smell the same theme in the sterile, bigger business of health care. Especially, when nationally syndicated screen plays like “Obamacare on the Horizon ” and ” Major Drugstore on Every Corner” are already funded and currently in production.
Isn’t it about time the Times-Picayune start “reviewing” these local screenplays and exposing the ‘ghost writers’ of such ‘ quid pro quo ‘ plots and ‘ follow the money ‘ themes.
The T-P won’t touch a story like this with a 10 foot pole IMHO Lockie. They prefer to spotlight the puppets rather than the puppet masters with their political coverage which is why one rarely sees names like Sisung in the paper in connection with hard news.
I’d love to eat my words on that but suspect I’ll never have to.

A more likely scenario is that what BP gave Magnum and a “bunch” of Louisiana politicians, already, is just “chump change”, given the $1 BILLION which BP has already given 4 States, the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Watch “Bobby” Jindal’s press confrtrnce today at 3:30 at the Port of New Orleans, which will announce how the State will spend its share of the $1 BILLION (how much will be delivered to Billy Nungesser?). But of course, the “story” isn’t how much BP has “given”, but what their exposure was under the “Natural Resource Damage Assessment” laws, and how much the States and the Federal Government gave away by granting BP a full RELEASE for only $1 BILLION. And of course, we need to see who’s going to get the money earmarked for Louisiana. Ashton O’Dwyer.
I agree Ashton, but who’s gonna bring these crooks down?
And appearing for his Directorial debut, is Calvin Fayard (now serving on the Board of Ochsner.
I don
