    I would never give Denny Kucinich two thoughts ordinarily but he sounds right here.

    Very right.

    Theory: The US Constitution says, “The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand.” That is to say, if I read this right, that the Constitution does not set a limit on how small our representation can be (and right now we’re at 435 reps for 300 million people, so nearly 1 million people per rep), but it permits us to get somewhere down to 1 per 30,000.

    Some time around 1913, the US Congress passed an apportionment law that basically halted the growth of Congress, freezing it where we are now. The ostensible reason given then (no, seriously) was lack of offfice space in DC.

    No, Denny is right, this is not what the Founders had in mind and really it’s not what Americans have in mind.
