Independence Day to most Americans means a three day weekend with gatherings of family and friends, barbecues, parties, games, food, parades, baseball games and fireworks. Traditionally, most of us know that July 4th is the recognition and celebration of our country’s independence from an oppressive government. But this mid-summer special day is really only about one thing. Freedom.

Most Americans agree on the importance of safeguarding basic freedoms protected by the constitution. But here’s where it gets a little murky. Do we have to give up certain of these freedoms to be safe and secure? The current and past presidents, one Democrat and one Republican, think that there are tradeoffs, and that individual freedoms have to be compromised for the sake of security. In order to combat crime and terrorism, they say, it is necessary for the government to take away certain freedoms and civil rights. In the realities of the 21st Century, is our constitution “out of date?” Both parties in Washington would have you believe so.

In the opinion of a majority of both Democrats and Republicans in Washington, freedom has to make way for safety concerns. That disturbing view manifested itself in the recent passage of the so-called Patriot Act. In the name of fighting terrorism, members of congress drove a stake through the heart of the Bill of Rights. Continue reading “Jim Brown”

In this episode of Magnum J.D.: Continental Casualty Company calls Bull (Durham) on Magnum and his firm, files suit.

Continental Casualty Co. filed suit in Louisiana federal court Friday alleging it should not have to pay to defend Gauthier Houghtaling & Williams LLP in actor Stephen Baldwin’s lawsuit over a $52 million joint venture deal with one of the firm’s partners.

I’ll see if I can update this post with case docs after I’ve had a chance to hit PACER.

Local Weiner on display: Kenner City Councilman Joe Stagni impersonates Anthony Weiner. But do we have a Cockshot?

Kenner City Councilman Joe Stagni (H/T WDSU)

Channel 6 broke the story of Joe Stagni who evidently has a proclivity for doing the self-portrait thing a la Anthony Weiner. Now folks, if history is any guide there is likely a photo hanging about someplace in cyberspace of Mr Stagni freeing his willie.

This budding scandal has evidently attracted the local authorities who have launched a probe into Stagni, his picture and mistress. Stay tuned.

It doesn't mean a thing if you ain't got that bling doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah………

NOPD composite sketch. (H/T The Times Picayune)

From the stupid burglar files someone (composite sketch on left) robbed Judge Vance’s place uptown last week stealing $100K worth of bling. It is rumored that stealing from a federal judge brings 10 years bad luck.

We have lots of uptowners in the Slabbed Nation. You folks be careful out there.

Its so on: Fred Heebe lawyers up with some of DC's finest criminal defense lawyers

All three new lawyers added to Team Heebe come from the Washington DC based firm of Williams and Connolly. The recently issued order admitting Tobin Romero Pro Hac Vice is identical to the ones admitting Brendan Sullivan and Robert Cary. Whadda you folks reckon the combined hourly rate of these 3 gents adds to?  I’m thinking somewhere close to $2,000/hour.

This is getting good.

Another ignorant member of media herd surfaces: Misinformed at the McComb Enterprise Journal…….

Then again folks, lazy and at times downright factually incorrect reporting of the McDonald’s Coffee case is a reason why the media in general was little more than a cheerleader for big businesses and their take over of the court system in furtherance of their own economic ends. Judging from the editorial page at the McComb Enterprise Journal it looks like blind idealogues make up the editorial board there. (H/T The Sun Herald which featured their ignorant brethren on the OpEd pages of today’s paper.)

The Jefferson Parish Politico Mafioso: A reign of uninterrupted criminal malfeasance and

The ‘Little Man’ Uncle Carlos (as in Marcello) must be all a glee in his grave to think that the political elite of Jefferson Parish have chosen as their persona, wannabe wise guys, just like his ‘family’ of the past.

And what about this thing, this MAFIOSO thing, that attracts our Parish politicians: from Judge to Parish President, from Council member to Clerk of Court, from a Chief of Police to School Board member, from Mayor to State legislator? Jefferson Parish’s Political establishment’s shocking and disturbing characterization of themselves, both in public projection and by emulating the “Thug Mentality” associated with a mafia family does in fact identify these individuals with what the adopted analogy implies, ORGANIZED CRIME!

Simply stated another way, we have a entrenched, incestuous, arrogant, self-entitlement, retirement junkie Politico Class that do what they ‘wanna do…whatz youz going to do about it?’

Here are some examples of such abominable public exhibition: Continue reading “The Jefferson Parish Politico Mafioso: A reign of uninterrupted criminal malfeasance and”

In this episode of Magnum J.D.: Layin' low…..

A reader contacted me with an inquiry into the whereabouts of one Magnum J.D. as he has evidently not been seen in legal circles these days. There was even a rumor going around that Magnum had gone to the funny farm for an extended in patient visit.  I am happy to dispel that rumor as untrue.

The fact is Magnum has evidently been laying low and he is in town. For instance, a member of the greater Slabbed Nation spotted him exiting a famous fine dining establishment in the Quarter in an advanced state of intoxication.  His friends made sure he got a cab back to the crib on St Chas and for that we are all thankful.

That said I do have some more episdoes of Magnum J.D. in the pipeline. For the many kind folks that take time to contact me on this topic please rest assured no one has been forgotten. Time is very scare for me these days as I am rainmaking for my practice, which in turn ultimately allows me the time to blog. Stay tuned.

Houston we have a problem on Grand Isle…..

Folks I have some stuff in the pipeline on the subject of Grand Isle Government but there is one problem on the island that reminded me of a famous South Park episode from season 2, Chicken Lover. Now that particular episode had a little something for everyone in the Slabbed Nation from Ayn Rand to certain unspeakable sex crimes. So while I develop the material here is a teaser in a video post of certain of the problems in State v Dantin. First is the simulated crime:

and now one of the problems Continue reading “Houston we have a problem on Grand Isle…..”
