And to think Eric Paulsen had an insurance case against State Farm we somehow missed….

This pleading came to me captioned Gates – Best Pleading Ever and in a strange slabbed sort of way it is as we find an example of a plaintiffs lawyer doing some of the sleazy things we’ve come to expect from State Farm lawyers like our old friend Scot Spragins of Kuehn infamy. Best of all it allows me to roll out some of Eric’s off air friends like Shane (D’Antoni) Gates and Danny Abel. To wit:

First, Plaintiff and Shane Gates (also known as Shane L. D’Antoni) are creditor/mortgagee and debtor/mortgagor on the very property as issue in this lawsuit, 56345 McManus Road in Slidell, Louisiana. 2 Thus when Baumgartner questioned Plaintiff at his deposition regarding his “unusual relationship” with Gates and why Gates seemed to be living at the McManus Road Property, Plaintiff’s reply that “Gates made a few mortgage payments” for Plaintiff has a whole new set of implications in light of the unearthing of the Bond for Deed, a transaction that has never been disclosed to State Farm or its counsel during the adjustment and lawsuit over this claim.3 Certainly in Plaintiff’s position as creditor/seller to Gates of the McManus Property, Plaintiff could have produced Gates for deposition and clearly knew at the outset when initial disclosures and discovery was made that Gates would be a witness in these proceedings. Its true folks, from the folks at 1732 Stumpf Blvd., a business location with many a Marcello based business listed there. In this particular case it is from one Renee Templet Apostol, aka Renee Apostol-Diaz aka Renee Diaz, wife of Milton “Mickey” Diaz of Progressive Home Health. In fact Renee is listed as the owner of Progressive Home Health at Manta.

Boys amongst men: I promise Mommy I’ll be a good boy from now on. A Jefferson Parish Council federal grand jury corruption subpoena and Waste Management lawsuit update.

Folks I’ve been dutifully collecting links and today I’ll solve the small mystery of why I tagged Gambit man Clancy Dubos with my Sunday music dedication and hopefully provide additional fodder for the grist mill. Let’s start with this story from Paul Rioux from last Friday where Chris Roberts, likely shaken from his second appearance before the federal grand jury that is exploring the corruption scandal which erupted under his watch on the parish Council proclaims the River Birch contract will finally be cancelled. From the sound of the comments to the story, the public isn’t buying Robert’s bullshit or his sudden deathbed conversion to a twisted sort of good government activist, not after he spent the last 2 years trying his best to line Fred Heebe’s pockets with taxpayer loot.

Next up is Rich Rainey, who let us know Sunday what we mostly already knew that the federal investigation is casting a very wide net into the multiple scams run by Jefferson Parish politicos and certain parish venders. Rich was kind enough to acknowledge the rampant rumor mill though not specifically my bad prediction of indictments by last Friday, which we all know did not happen.

I’ll add indictment rumors are notoriously unreliable though Vinny Mosca posited his estimate of the accuracy rate of the rumor mill at around 50%. The biggest piece of news that was missed by everyone in Rich’s article is that Broussard has a new lawyer, Robert Jenkins, who evidently has replaced the ailing Mike Ellis.  Have the folks at Chehardy Sherman abandoned AB? There is a back story on this developement that is worth knowing.

Slabbed expresses our condolences to Chief Weatherford and his family on the loss of his daughter to a drunk driver

This is a topic that I have written a great deal about here on Slabbed and tragically today we learn that a drunk driver took the life of Gulfport police chief Alan Weatherford’s daughter. On behalf of the Slabbed Nation we express our condolences to Chief Weatherford and his family and hope their pain and loss is assuaged in time.

BREAKING: Chris Roberts would like to say a word about the Baudier “attack ad”. Updated with a response from the Baudier Campaign!

Folks, my mind is open to the possibility that not only is Chris Roberts a complete imbecile but he also has a huge crush on some chick called Anne Marie.  Now hummm, who could that be?

My own opinion is that Mr Roberts is feeling the heat as word on the street is he will lose to Tim Baudier while Tom Capella wins the assessor race. Examine the following email Robert’s sent to the M&M sisters and see if you agree that Mini-me’s baum is being nicely roasted. ~ sop

In this episode of Magnum JD: When it comes to the Oil Spill money grab, ethics are no object.

Question: What does a NOLA based law firm that claims legendary trial lawyer/litigator Wendell Gauthier have in common with Boss Hogg’s law firm Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes out of Jackson? Simple the color green as in cash, money, and greed as both firms have been caught with their hand in the conflict of interest cookie jar representing both sides in the current oil spill litigation. The disregard for basic legal ethics is stunning IMHO.

I only bring this up because a friend sent me this love letter from Magnum to Mark Holstein in BP’s legal department for the consideration of the Slabbed Nation.

I am writing in follow up to my previous correspondence. Our firm is eager to begin working on this matter on BP’s behalf. Please advise if we should contact anyone.

I hate to share the vision of how I see the oil spill litigation unfolding but when the politicians, along with the local bar are too busy trying to cash in instead of representing the public’s or their client’s interest, “not much good” will be the end result except for those on the inside of the money grab.
