"Good government" makes the news in Louisiana

Actually, not “good government” per se but a bit of news about the Alliance for Good Government of particular interest to SLABBED from the Times Picayune:

The Alliance for Good Government honored lawmakers in state and local government at its annual Legislators of the Year awards banquet Saturday…The organization’s bylaws say its purpose is to “bring together thinking citizens into an organization which will promote public policies which benefit” the New Orleans area, Louisiana and the United States.

The organization was started in 1967 to support candidates and issues in the metropolitan area and now has chapters in Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes.

The legislators honored were: Jefferson Parish, state Rep. Joseph Lopinto, R-Metairie; Orleans Parish, City Councilman Arnie Fielkow; St. Bernard Parish, state Rep. Nita Rusich Hutter, R-Chalmette; and St. Tammany Parish, Councilman Al Hamauei.

Each chapter also presented a Civic Award to someone who has “worked hard to make a difference.” The recipients were: Jefferson, Margie Seeman and Margaret Baird of Citizens for Good Government; Orleans, Justin Woods; St. Bernard, Emile Pellittieri; and St. Tammany, Dawn Sharpe Brackett, CEO of the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce.

SLABBED congratulates Margie and Margaret on this most deserved recognition.  As the reader who sent the link wrote, “the divine M & M Sisters got bling!”

  1. If there is a Medal of Honor in recognition of moral fortitude in the face of political contempt; selflessness for the betterment of community; and heroism for their steadfastness to the ideals of American Democracy, then THESE TWO WONDERFUL INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE FOREFRONT AS THE ROLE MODELS OF COMMON DECENCY AND COMMUNAL SPIRIT FOR ALL OF US TO EMULATE !

Shame on all the Jefferson Parish Council Members, the Parish President and their staff, particularly interim Parish Attorney Peggy Barton, Louis Gruntz and Alan Gandolfi, for the disrespect they have displayed toward these ladies of genuine and honest character, meeting after meeting, year after year.

  2. It’s almost as if the council members and their lackeys simply restrain their disdain for these two real citizens. From what I’ve seen, none of the council members has the intestinal fortitude to respond to these ladies’ well-taken positions. The only response they ever get is, “Mam, your time is up.” That’s pathetic. Sometimes you can even see the smug grins on the council members’ faces as these two brave ladies tell it like it is.

  3. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOwweeeeeeeeeeeee BRAVO–BRAVO—BRAVO to the M&M Sisters as Whitmergate and Sockpuppet have said it so well. However, with the up coming elections we the VOTERS in appreciation to them need to respond with the same words that non-responing TheRiot and the council rudely say at every meeting to these fine citizens, ” You toxic corrupt politicians YOUR TIME IS UP FOR GOOD” !!!!!—–And hereby pull the voting levers only for new candidates with reforming platforms expousing good government proposals such as no more campaign contributions to council or President, an independent Inspector General and nighttime council meetings every month.By cutting off the money supply the good ole’ boys networking will dry up on the vine. Which reminds me I gotta go swing OOOOOOOwweeeeeeeeee

  4. Re your comment on the M & M sisters..( the best thing to happen in Jefferson Parish ever…)…agreed, the smug members of the Council and the Parish President never respond to the spot on comments/observations made by the M & M’s in parish council meetings except to tell them their time for speaking is up..

Moreover, can’t agree more..hopefully, Jefferson Parish voters will send the message to Jefferson Parish politicians that their time at the trough is over…by voting out these career politicians with their back room deals and under cover shenanigans …finally hopefully the long sleeping Jeff Parish citizens have awakened and have a resolve to right their ship which has been steered off course by our so called parish “leaders”.

    Power to the M & M’s…!

  5. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOwweeeeeeeeeeee Ok, BUNHARE!!!— glad to see you have also given up on JP controlled NOLA.
