Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Kitty Kimball suffers stroke

H/T Mr CLS.

I know Ashton doesn’t care for Kitty Kimball but when it came to properly interpreting Louisiana insurance law Ms Kimball was spot on when she said, “”I’m not really interested in what the federal courts have to say about this, frankly.” I suspect she uttered that statement after Edith Jones and her GOP band of idiots on the 5th Circuit court of appeals slaughtered the Louisiana Bag opinion in a ruling that erroneously favored insurers. The Times Picayune has the AP story:

The first woman chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court suffered a stroke on Sunday and was in intensive care.

Chief Justice Catherine “Kitty” Kimball had an ischemic stroke, underwent a successful procedure to remove the blockage and was in recovery, according to a statement from the Supreme Court that was confirmed by public information officer Valerie Willard.

The 64-year-old Kimball of Ventress has been chief justice since January 2009, after serving as an associate justice from 1992 to 2008. She is the first woman elected to the state’s highest court.

Here at Slabbed we wish Mrs Kimball a speedy recovery.

  1. I too hope she has a speedy recovery.

HOWEVER, her quote about the 5th Circuit did not lead to her correctly ruling in the matter which she said it. I know this because its a case which I helped prepare plaintiff’s counsel to argue.

Her decision and reasoning were flat out wrong and not even close to being right. Also, except for La. Bag, which involved a corporation, not a homeowner and created NO NEW LAW or settled an issue of La. law in favor of a consumer, her decisions since becoming Chief Justice have been pro-insurance company. See Sher v. Lafayette, Landry v. La. Citizens and Cutsinger v. Redfern et al., — So.3d—, 2009 WL 1425619 (La. 2009).

While not as bad as some other Justices, she has certainly been no friend of the consumer.

Nontheless, I certainly hope she recovers fast and continues to serve the state of Louisiana.

    1. Patricia: You were very kind to dress Kitty in black as it definitely makes her look 50% thinner than the 55 gallon barrel of lard that she really is.

Heard on the grapevine she was gonna do some infomercials for Weight watches but Kitty couldn’t kick her “crony-dawg” addiction.
