I could offer a load of commentary but I won’t beyond saying meet the man’s whose dirt company will get the majority of the fill work at the Port of Gulfport. The comments to the story well convey public perception about both Mr Fore and the use of tasers and are worth a bit more than a grain of salt….
Gulfport businessman W.C. “Cotton” Fore faces misdemeanor charges after he allegedly assaulted an employee and was Tasered by Gulfport Police when they arrested him at his business Oct. 24.
Fore, 66, originally said he wanted to tell his side of the story, but decided instead to give only a brief statement Friday to the Sun Herald.
“The mayor and chief of police have both apologized to me,” Fore said, “and this was a company, personal matter.” Fore said that was the only comment he wanted to make about the arrest.
“I did apologize if we did anything wrong,” said Gulfport Police Chief Alan Weatherford. “There’s an internal review of this matter,” and Weatherford told Fore he would get back to him with the findings in several weeks.
Mayor Brent Warr could not be reached for comment.
Gulfport police arrested Fore on one count each of simple assault and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Gulfport Police Department, then released. He is scheduled to appear in city court at 9 a.m. Dec. 12.
Police said they were called by one of Fore’s employees, who said Fore had assaulted him. The police arrived at W.C. Fore Trucking on Creosote Road at 5:43 p.m. Oct. 24. Public information officer James Griffin said the victim placed Fore under citizen’s arrest, which is done only in police presence and is customary when a police officer hasn’t witnessed a crime.
“During the process of taking the suspect into custody,” the police report stated, “he obstructed/resisted his arrest, resulting in him being tazed (sic).”
City Court records show Fore, one of the largest landowners in South Mississippi, pleaded no contest to a simple assault charge in 2005, paying a fine of $292, after an altercation with an opponent of one of his dirt pits.
