Breaking: Perdigao's Bond Revoked, Situation Goes from Bad to Worse

Susan Finch at the Times Picayune has the breaking story.  Momma and Pappa Perdigao’s personal residences now hang in the balance:

A former Adams and Reese law partner facing trial Dec. 1 for allegedly stealing $30 million from his ex employer must stay in jail until then because he has violated several terms of the hefty bond that his parents underwrote to allow him to remain free, a federal magistrate ruled today.

Magistrate Louis Moore revoked Jamie Perdigao’s $2 million bond, half secured by his mother’s home and half by his father’s residence, after hearing from the FBI agent who arrested Perdigao Oct. 16 on charges of gaining unauthorized access to Adams & Reese and downloading many sensitive documents. Jamie Perdigao: Gifted Lawyer, Rapscallion, Secret Shoplifter?

Another big H/T to Mr NAAS. I think it is now official –  this case has passed into the realm of never never land.  It also could be the behind the scenes explanation for the extra week in jail while Mr Wessel prepares for the bond hearing. This doesn’t look good for team Perdigao – shoplifting Charmin and parrot food from the Covington Walmart while on bond for allegedly stealing $30 million dollars isn’t good for ones pretrial freedom, especially when you have $800 cash in your pocket at the time of the arrest:

Recently, the FBI learned that the defendant has been deceiving this Court and the entire criminal justice system. On February 27, 2008, defendant Perdigao was arrested by members of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office for shoplifting. Cori and Kerri Rigsby, Meet Jamie Perdigao

H/T to Mr NAAS for the U.S. Attorney’s supplemental response to Jamie Perdigao’s request for a rule 17C subpoena. Once again we have the term stolen document enter into the lexicon of the case along with the Government’s contention that since Perdigao had what he subpoenaed from Adams and Reese on his computers (that were seized by the Government last week) he should not be able to use or subpoena any of the items.

Pursuant to a search warrant executed in the above referenced computer intrusion, the government seized the defendant’s computer as well as two computers belonging to Adams & Reese. Thus far, the FBI has found a bevy of stolen files in the defendant’s computer belonging to the victim Adams & Reese. Continue reading “Cori and Kerri Rigsby, Meet Jamie Perdigao”

Bubba Pierce's Out of State Henchmen Set New Campaign Lows

I first saw the anti Diaz commercial last week on WLOX.  It was paid for by LEAA, an offshoot of the National Rifle Association. Not only was the ad well below the belt but according to Anita Lee is also false and misleading. The fact insurance company supported candidate Bubba Pierce was content to sit and watch these ads without comment speaks volumes too.  Momma Pierce certainly taught her boy better but the lure of the supreme court has clouded his judgement and now his reputation is suffering. Here is Anita Lee’s story:

Proponents of campaign-finance reform say a loophole in Mississippi law encourages misleading, anonymously sponsored television advertisements that out-of-state groups back to attack candidates they oppose.

This past week, incumbent Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz Jr. became the target of an inaccurate and misleading advertisement sponsored by the Law Enforcement Alliance of America, an organization headquartered near Washington, D.C.

LEAA, a group that has been backed by the National Rifle Association, is airing the advertisements on television stations from Jackson to the Coast. They accuse Diaz of supporting two child killers and a rapist who murdered a woman. Diaz actually voted to give one convict a post-conviction hearing in Circuit Court, stay the execution of a second inmate pending a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on lethal injection and grant a new trial to a third defendant because of errors in a previous trial that the entire court acknowledged.

Matt Steffey, a Mississippi College School of Law professor who specializes in criminal law, said the ads are intended to mislead and play on the electorate’s fear. Continue reading “Bubba Pierce's Out of State Henchmen Set New Campaign Lows”

The "F" word hits the road – finds Wall is dead end Street (Part 3 of 3)

Sop knows finance and I, on the other hand, know about working with people who would water a “hedge” if they had one, invest in “cats” that kill mice, and think exotic credit comes from a payday lender.

Hurricane Katrina, however, was a great equalizer; and, three years after the “F” word took people in Mississippi-Louisiana for a ride, the driver reached the end of the road on Wall Street – and was last seen frantically looking for a payday lender.

Financial Crisis: Wall Street dead end for disaster protection.

In the rear view mirror is the “F” word’s detachment as coverage issues became the focus of litigation following Katrina and an OIG report suggesting why – which explains how the “F” word made it all the way to Wall with the financial crisis.
